Court of the Owls mask - Completed

I've recently been reading DC Comics New 52 and just finished the Night of the Owls arc. I thought the Court of the Owls masks looked pretty cool so I looked online for a pdo but nothing turned up. So, I figured I'd make it myself. (Sidenote: They were giving these masks away at NY Comic-Con, which I attended. Swarms of people were wearing them and it never even occurred to me to snag one:facepalm) I've never tried my hand at 3d modelling, and it took me more hours than I'd like to admit to get it done but I think it turned out okay. More seasoned hands could do much better in less time I'm sure. I might revisit it later and polish it up. I plan on assembling it later today.

Re: Court of the Owls mask

Thanks! I'm still messing around with the eyes. The way I have it pictured is how the masks at NYCC looked, but in the comics the eyes are narrower; more sinister I suppose.

Edit: I tinkered with the eyes a bit and came up with this:

Here's what it looks like in the comics:

He's some pictures of it all built. I sized it a tad large when I printed it so it's a bit long, and I think it should be more oval shaped, but other than that I think it came out rather nicely for my first go.

Great Job! Especially if you haven't modelled before, You even used edge loops around the eyes and everything.

Re: Court of the Owls mask

Thanks! I used Metasequoia. At first I couldn't do anything, but after watching a quick tutorial I was good to go. Once you know what you're doing it's an easy program to work with.

Re: Court of the Owls mask

Kept tinkering with the design, made it more face-flush and head shaped. I'm extremely happy with the final design.

Can't wait to put the finishing touches on this thing, but I need to go get some resin since my 321 part B somehow sprung a leak and emptied out onto the floor.:facepalm

Re: Court of the Owls mask

So, over a month later and I'm finally almost finished. I got the surface all smoothed, put a layer of primer on and I put the last bit of spot putty I think I'll need on it. That's drying now. I'll pick up some paint this weekend and hopefully I can mark this in the finished column.

Finally finished. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it. It's a great feeling knowing the whole process, from pep to paint, was my own doing. Now that I'm finished, I can continue work on my Red Hood helmet :)

Thanks! I was pretty meticulous with the sanding. Like I said, it's not perfect but I'm happy with it. My first time working with bondo proved to be a learning experience, so hopefully I'll be better prepared for the Red Hood helmet :)

I've had a few people ask me, and I'm thinking I might sell the final version for like $10. It was a lot of work for me to make since I had zero experience with 3d modelling when I started.

...Or maybe I could mold/cast it?

Thanks, guys. If I ever make this available for purchase in the future I'll be sure to let you know.
