Coruscant Guard WIP (Star Wars Shadows of the Empire)

I've always loved the helmet on these guys. The biggest problem I'm running into is that there are very few reference images. Luckily I have the Kenner action figure but sadly I lost the helmet years ago.

I'm primarily referencing this photo:

I'm also referencing torsoboy's build for the helmet.

My first stab at the helmet was pretty bad.

Fortunately some better Blender practice shaped it up:

Leaving me with this:

The visor isn't quite as strictly X-shaped as the reference image, but I got pretty close to what Torsoboy did, which I think looks better.

I'm trying out Smooth-On's new XTC-3D for surface coating and so far I like it. Two coats left me a pretty smooth and relatively rigid coating, and it self-levels way better than urethane resin.

The chest armor is going to be the next thing. It looks very much like TCW clone armor, but I'd like your opinions on whether I should start from there or scratch-build it.

I would say you should use the Clone Armor as a base and then modify as needed. But that's just my opinion:D

It looks great so far! I am new to hard costumes (Armor etc) and have only messed with fabrics before. Could anyone point me in the direction of some well priced clone armor? Not the helmet (Already got one of those) but the main chest and arms mostly. Thank you!
