Correct diameter of AMT/Ertl Falcon cockpit tube

I had links to a few sites of people who had built a new cockpit tube for the AMT/Ertl Millennium Falcon, but they are dead now.

Have any of you built a new cockpit tube or may know someone who has and can you tell me the outer diameter used for the cockpit tube?

Hi mate, sorry I Have not been in touch, nor done what I said I would. Have not done any models for six months or more so have been out of the loop. However I happend upon you post, so I thought this may come in handy.

I had a plan view of the 5' Falcon (If thats the way you are going) and made comparisments from a hard copy of the pic and the AMT. I also used John Martins measurments as well and came up with these major corrections. I was actualy surprised how accurate the propotions of the AMT are, not withstanding the realy bad detail.

I hope this all makes sence, It did to me 2 years ago, LOL

Hope you and yours has been well!

Dooohhhh, I have tried to post an Excel sheet with no luck. How do I post a spred sheet like that?

4.4cm. Thanks Tan.

And thanks Ozzy, John Martin used to have his own site but it has been taken down. But all of the info is now at SSM. His name was all that I needed to find it. He also has a buildup at CultTVman, but not as in depth.

4.4cm is what John Martin came up with also.

4.4 converts to 1 3/4 inches... I think thats a little large. IIRC its closer to 1.5 inches "about" 1/8 larger then the current tube. the "main" issue with the ERT tunnel is that its not round. It flattens at the top. and changes the profile a bit. Oddly enough the main change is that the tube goes DOWN overlapping the bottom hull plate. Once you correct the sidewall panel height its becaomes clear that the tube MUST overlap. But the original tube is not rteally that far off in diameter after you fix the flattening issue (by replacing the tube). A little convoluted I know but my meory says that 3/4 is a bit too large... However tubing is cheap... Buy a little at 1 1/2 1 5/16 and 1/3/4, mock it up and see what it looks like.

Found a way to post it. If anyone wants a copy just give me a hoy. I also made size checks against the only part that I could find a good reference for which was the Wankel rotary engine. This confirmed the measurements. 4.4cm was around the tube size I got as well. Its definately not too big.
