ConvergenceProps SW Builds and Research: Bossk Relby Madness!

Got some more work done on this heap this weekend ..
(IG-88’s Blaster)
8A976E95-3CB2-4D80-81D1-895C5B534D9F.jpeg

8.) Got the barrel permanently mounted onto the Mp44/STG44 casting, and blended in with filler.

9.) Got some more “greeblies” added on Just missing the stock bits and the under magazine port details which I still gotta design

10.)Started working on the scope assembly. Figured I could at least get the piece that mounts to the sight tower installed. Its a vintage scope mount on there as well. The singlepoint scope is just a casting. Didn’t see the sense in spending the mula on a real one for this POS when the scope lens gets covered up anyway and Ive no real desire to build the other STG based blasters

So close yet still so much to do...

Got moving forward on some of the models for the new greeblies to hopefully finish up the IG-88 blaster rebuild
First was the small scope, then the cone thing that goes on the front of the STG mag well

So close and yet still so far to go…

Todays project was the magazine well, as well as the V8 pulley center caps.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to do about this stepped section underneath the magazine well.. if I should just scratch build it entirely, or try designing something to 3d Print..

I’ve jack squat for clear reference photos of this area. (Probably why I avoided making it for so long ).
So I ended up deciding to do a little of both!
Did what scaling I could and made a quick model of the stepped section which went into the printer last night.

For a long time I thought the prop guys might have just carved the STG mold pour in this spot, but after looking at the Hoth Rebel blasters, none of which doesn’t have anything in this location, I’m kind of starting to lean more towards it being yet another mystery “found part” .. it and the front piece may even be one thing..

Anywho, this pretty much finishes everything I needed to 3D print for the main body of the build though, so I shot everything again in black primer and will start the filler work of blending the magazine area in.
It’ll probably be slightly cleaner in build than the actual Hero prop one is

I do still gotta redesign and print the whole front scope assembly, but thankfully thats a separate piece on its own, so I don’t have to wait for it in order to start painting this puppy once the fillers done

More soon!

After posting the last pics I noticed that the barrel shroud and cocking tube section had a SLIGHT upward tilt of a degree or so, which my OCD ass was just not having...
51D3EDC1-238B-44C0-B0BD-0C923E9661C9.jpeg

Preformed some minor surgery and was able to bring in both true with the rest of the STG receiver casting

I also did the filler work on the bottom of the magazine well to blend everything together like on the Hero IG-88 blaster prop. Then I Sanded in the receiver corners and scribed in the line along the magazine well where the bottom mates…
It sorta looks like the original prop maker intended for a imaginary magazine to be or something. Could just be the edge of the original found part too I suppose but who knows with that piece of junk..

Little bit more cleanup to do in this area.. I gotta make the scope caps and install the barrel, but this main section is pretty much ready for the paint booth

Hey guys
Some of you already probably saw these on FB and such, but this is the official post for this little side research project I've been doing for my favorite prop.

These are all the configurations for the ESB Boba Fett Blaster as seen on screen throughout Empire Strikes Back which I have divided up into Early, Mid and Late Filming configurations using the help of RafalFett 's wonderful research here The Empire Strikes Back - Boba Fett's on stage chronology

I did my best to replicate all these changes as accurately as possible in regards to what happened and where/how parts moved or disappeared. Oddly the Mid filming configuration is what looks to be on screen the most, and is what most people do for their stock greeblies configuration.
Hope these all help you in recreating whichever variant of this prop you like. I'm kind of slightly more partial towards Mid configuration myself where it has slightly more "character" with all the wonky stuff

Early Configuration: (The original state of this prop, but least seen in the film)

Mid Filming Configuration: (What's seen on screen most in ESB)

Whoah! Amazing work on the IG-88 blaster! And some reference pics I hadn’t seen. Thanks for sharing! I’m working on the Hoth rifle now, 3d printed parts on a Denix.

I’ve studied the crap out of this thing, but somehow never noticed the screw on the front section of the scope. Now I have to print another!

The side plates are almost identical, but there are definitely a few differences (possibly just molding artifacts). Happy to share my observations if you’re interested. Again, amazing work!

Been a while since I've done an update here! Got quite a few new found part projects going now as I’ve been pretty sick of Fett stuff lately!
Still keeping it Hunter related though because im trash. Big thanks to Chris and Markus and others for helping me with researching these so far, as they are certainly out of my usual sandbox, but are ever adding to my love for how these original props were built

One is Bossk’s Relby V-10 using a real Schermuly. I refinished the flaking stock finish, and just got in a gorgeous 1943 m38 for the rear scope.

The second big project is one I’ve always wanted to build because this beautiful background nightmare always terrified me ever since I first watched ESB as a kid, but I present to you IG-88’s noggin!
Real Mk 9 can and i found some vintage PL-259 connectors manufactured in 1983 that look to match the Hoth scanner one’s pretty well, and were presumably what was on IG as well.
At first I thought the scope bell in IG was the plastic type used on Boba’s scope, but after discussing it at length with Chris whos looked into it a lot more, I went with his recommendation and found one that was the bowcaster type, which looks perfect
Eventually I want to make the infamous cut and rig him up to turn and light up exactly like Bill built him back in 1979, but I want to do as much research as I can, and maybe make one mold of it while its whole for a cantina bar thing, before i make that leap. I absolutely love this guy though, almost every bit as much as my RS ESB Fett cast

And in addition to that, I ended up ripping off and am in the midst of redoing entirely the IG-88 blaster barrel. I was able to get some information that ruled out the old theory of an overhang, and instead the barrel is indeed flush on both sides. This required starting almost from scratch again, but has yielded a lot more answers I needed as to what this possible found part gun part once was, which indeed is still leaning towards some variation of Aircraft Machine Gun barrel

This Bossk Relby V-10 Blaster “Found Parts” build has been quite the enjoyable departure from Boba Fett stuff
A old RPF member reached out to me with an offer on another 1943 M38 scope, and where this one was a “7” cast scope in great condition I thought it would be perfect to go along with my “8” cast 43 scope. So I decided to jump on it, bringing me that much closer to finishing this build!
Got it mounted and painted up. I hadn’t realized when I’d started building this, and I very much doubt I’m the first to notice, and its not entirely perfect, but not only do the scopes actually work on this build, but it actually doubles the standard magnification of the forward scope, along with making the scope reticle look really funky and sci-fi

Just one more part left to find!
