I just watched
Conan the Destroyer and noticed even more stitching on the headband than I saw in the still images I looked through. I think the rolled over band is probably also stitched in place. It'll be interesting to see how this custom one turns out, but the perfectionist in me probably won't be terribly happy either way since obvious visual flaws bug me (If I don't/can't notice them, they don't bother me like my cheaper Indy hat), but here either way it's going to be hard to find a more accurate one without learning how to make all the bits myself (i.e. hard to convince a commercial place to spend a lot of time on it as that would also drive the price up). I probably should have just gone for the plain black headband he wears in Destroyer during the middle segments.
Meanwhile, I noticed something else odd in the movie. In the early scenes, Conan's Atlantean sword clearly has no 'darkened' runes on it. It's just the stainless steel prop as it was formed and how must prop swords ship. Later, in the movie (when Conan is fighting the royal guard come to ambush them), the runes are suddenly darker like someone took a Sharpie to them and outlined them. I seem to recall they were dark in the Barbarian movie so I can't help but wonder if some of the swords used had them darkened and some did not? I think it makes sense they might have had a different sword model for sparring than just posing, but that's just a guess. Maybe someone here knows more. I suppose it could just be the lighting somehow changing its appearance? (see comparison snapshots below)
I actually tried outlining the runes on my own
Conan The Barbarian version of the Atlantean sword on one side with a Sharpie; it worked surprisingly well (as long as you have a steady hand). You can always try again by buffing it a bit and no permanent damage is done if you want it back to clean as the ink doesn't really stick that hard to stainless steel, assuming you have that style prop and not a real steel sword version, of which I don't know how it would react.
The Destroyer sword seems a brighter shade on the hilt as well (more gold toned than the darker bronze shade of the Barbarian movie).
I know it's probably heresy, but I always liked Destroyer better than Barbarian. I started playing D&D around 8-9 years old and Destroyer always felt more like playing the game in terms of a quest, magic items, etc. and it's a lighter movie overall than Barbarian, which is far more serious for better or worse. Destroyer is more fun and I always had a crush on Oliva D'abo growing up. She was gorgeous in
Greedy years later.
