comic-style venom costume...

hey guys first actual thread on here i guess, been a fan of this kinda stuff since i was a wee tacker and now actually starting to put some serious effort into building stuff.
my next plan is to build a venom costume, but based on the comic. IE massively over-bulked and big jaw with massive teeth. been inspired by the TMNT costume with working jaw/lips to make the mask like that, so thats what i'll be aiming towards.
basically my biggest question is; how do i make myself look massively bulked up without it looking like i've stuffed a lycra costume with padding? i'm pretty good in sculpting and whatnot but also trying to keep it basic and low-cost as possible.

cheers guys, you lot are a massive inspiration!!

padding is the way to go, you just need to be creative with its use.

get some furniture foam. cut it into strips that correspond with major muscle groups. fasten these foam pieces to a tight fitting undersuit (spandex?), and then wear your venom suit on the outside. Make your muscles before you make your skin. just make sure the foam is attached well to the spandex undersuit.

...or dont.

and end up with a bicep in my crotch? sweet :D yup thats not a bad idea really. been doing art all my life and have a really good understanding of anatomy so that may actually be the best way. then may just see if i can secure some latex paint and go over it. hmm..

ok. pics to follow with my ideas. cheers for the heads up

I had a buddy sculpt and make mine in all latex. The head is resin with latex under the jaw and around the back of the neck, Still a work in progress. Only had it to two cons now at this point.

You look fantastic, but I imagine your mobility is minimal. I also notice your arms are in the same pose for both pics. coincedence, or really still rubber? :p

The rubber is still pretty stiff. That was DragonCon and was it's first outing. I just did Mid Ohio Con yesterday and it was a little more flexible.

Venom and Spider-Man are my 2 top Marvel characters and I have to say this is absolutely awesome!! Best venom suit I've ever seen hands down!

Thanks. Here's two shots from this weekend. Showing the ability to move the arms. But then right back to the same pose. :lol

Gloves and boots are going to need worked on and a removable tongue is in the works. But pretty happy with version 1.0 so far. No intention to hijack the thread. Wanted to show how I got the bulked up comic version.

Easier said then done, will never look right unless the foam is sewed between two fabric ect... otherwise it won't look natural, it's ok for a bulk looking effect but it won't look realistic, if you seek quality check these guys out the best muscle suit ever, I plan ordering one soon.

Thanks! My friend that sculpted it and I are trying to work out a silicone tongue that is removable. Made a few mods this year. Repainted the hands, added more foam in the boots for comfort (which are going to be remade), shimmed the torso and legs for better fit and sprayed it with some armoral for a shine. We'll call it v1.5 for now :lol
