Code cylinders?

These are stems from two older-model shower valves. I'll do the research on them, but they look alot like code cylinders to me. Tell me what you think...They are chromed brass, and relatively expensive.

Yes, those type of faucet stems were used for the Rebel pilots and Motti's code cylinders. I don't think those are an exact match, but I don't have my reference handy.

The other code cylinders with the clips and blue tops were radiation dosimeters.

Actually I don't think anyone's ever found matching faucet stems for the non-dosimeter cylinders. Current thinking in the rebel costuming world is that the originals were machined.

I don't think these were machined. Too much work when parts were probably ready at hand. What people forget when they look at them is that the stem you see pictured above usually rests inside a brass body. They are very hard to identify in the package.

I work at a specialty plumbing shop that has been in business for fifty years in the same location... I have access to catalogs and parts that are certainly out of the ordinary, and my employer can tell a part make and model by the SMELL of it, it seems, and hes yet to be stumped. if someone could post accurate pics, there is a good chance I can identify them.

Many have tried, may you succeed. ;)

This is the best pic I've ever come across. Stolen from the Jedi Academy website.

I believe the lighter color in the recesses is due to dust. This pic is from one of the earlier exhibitions, and in the early days the archives were just a bunch of metal shelving units in a warehouse, with everything just sitting out in the open. Dust covered everything.

Thanks, Jay. I'm really interested in seeing photos of say, Luke in his pilots' uniform. If I remember correctly, the cylinders looked markedly different to the ones in the exhibit. Definitely more chromed.

Again, I appreciate the help. This seems minor, I know.

Is it possible they are Armitage shanks parts ? we know they used the handwheels just a thought

I heard somewhere that the ID cylinders were just chalk pens with a different top slapped on, but I've got nothing to back it up.

The chalk holders were seen in the Visual Dictionary, but those are fan made - not screen accurate at all.

It looks like the one on the right might be chipped at the top. Does it look like wood under the paint to anyone else?

I'm pretty sure those are 1961-1962 RAF dosimeters . I'm still looking for some myself. And nope those ARE The real deal done (Meaning Found & Provided) by OdiWan72, Markus, and it was a one time thing so he sadly has no more.

I don't think they were DONE (made) by ObiWan72. he found a cache of them and made them available.

They are awesome. And they came along just as my officer's uniform was being completed.

Damn i've been searching for a pair for ages is there any other info on these ? manufacturer ,serial number etc ?
Or does Odiwan still have some ?

Sorry for the off topic :redface

I got 4 of them from him last fall - October or November. He said they weren't as good as the ones he sold previously, but with a little elbow grease and some steel wool, they cleaned up really nice. Wish I had a pic to post, but they look just as nice as the ones lonepigeon posted. Send Markus a PM if you haven't already. Maybe he still has a few.

Already tried no luck with Markus i have managed to find one that looks similar but the blue area is a different shade lighter in colour and only found one

The rebel pilot "code cylinders" are definitely wood. At least the ones in the touring suit are.

Wood painted silver. and not completely either, the very tip of the base is still unpainted.

Bit of a necro post.

I'd like to know if anyone managed to identify whether or not the xwing pilot / motti code cylinders were indeed facet stems.

Thanks
