Cobra Baroness

OK. Yeah, I meant under the arms to connect the sides of the chest and backplates.....using that gloss pvc material like the gloves and boots are made out of to make a connector strap on each side instead of (currently) black elastic. We'd still keep the backpack shoulder straps across the top, just throwing around ideas of maybe something different to connect the sides with.

Still undecided, there's a lot of different types of materials to use. Just thought if we used the gloss black pvc material, it might blend color tones a bit more with the other accessories. Another option we discussed would be a black snakeskin type material. Both materials readily available at fabric stores.

I second that a fabric whould be in best inention to use to connect the sides. I think this is a very cool costume. The layers and details are very nice. It could also be nice to se the sides connected by a snakeshell material on the sides. ;)

Back to the serious costume discussion for 2 seconds. We're thinking of possibly making connector straps between the chest and back armor out of the same type of shiny pvc material like the gloves and boots are, just to give it a little more something.

Now the gloves and boots material gloss does match each other exactly, but it doesn't match the same "shade" of gloss that the armor is painted in. So, would it look weird having that shiny gloss pvc material between the two "flatter gloss" armor plates? Should we just stick with the normal flat black elastic strips we're using currently?

I think these changes would be fine. Look at Selenas outfit in Underworld, all kinds of textures of Black.

While I know you are going for more of the cartoon look than the movie look, if you look at the movie, the Baroness had a lot of black on black, but all of it was textured differently to bring interest to what would have otherwise been a borinng costume. Kimmy's already has more interest due to the high gloss vs fabric but I think it might be VERY cool to introduce a bit of black snakeskin material to add another layer of depth and interest.

That's what we were thinking, too. We were originally thinking maybe making her gunbelt and thigh holster straps out of the snakeskin type material. That was the original plan for the shoulder straps as well, but the backpack straps work well to make it more like military "armor" might look in real life. Yes, the old comics were the main inspiration for the costume (the body armor is straight old school figure look) but we wanted to modernize it a bit as well.

Andy... you lucky, lucky man! :cool

Kimmy... You ARE the Baroness... and a naughty one at that! (y)thumbsup

We'll work on that snakeskin type addition once we go find her the airsoft guns and new holster. :cool

I know different artists draw her (and every other character) differently between comics, action figure packaging, the ROC movie look, etc. So we tried to keep the look of this costume as basic as possible, without excessive "toy decoration" but yet still maintain an overall look where people would instantly recognize this as the Cobra Baroness from the '80s G.I. JOE brought into the world of "real life".

How is your accent ?

I've never heard Kim even try the cartoon accent. Here's the story with the accents where the Rise of Cobra movie was more correct than the cartoons....

The creator of the '80s JOEs comics Larry Hama said the Baroness was European but he always pictured her without an accent (aka having just our normal American "accent" ). Only when the cartoon came out the cartoon people decided to give her the Russian "Boris and Natasha" sounding accent. ROC gave her the more American accent, which was how her creator always pictured it, even though the ROC Baroness actress is actually European in real life (British).

Then again with Destro..... he's always been from Scotland but when the cartoon came out they gave him the American accent.....reverse of what they did with Baroness.

Having the ROC Destro actor speak in the Scottish accent is correct for the comic original character.

Like Andy said, I haven't attempted.

I guess if I watch enough of the 80's cartoon, I could try and pass off a halfway decent one... or it could end up sounding like crap. :sick :lol

:lol Love the bit after the credits.

Here's a few more pics from last night. :D
