Coating closed cell foam tube

Hi everyone! I'm trying to make a prop giant lollipop. I've got a great shape using insulating pipe foam wrapped in a circle, but I want the candy to be smooth. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? I put a pretty good coat of plasti-dip on it but it still seems to look rough. My next idea was to try a brush on resin. Any ideas?

Just a cheap casting resin like D65 should work to seal up the foam cells. Once you get a few layers down, you should be able to sand it smooth.
