CO Sonic Screwdriver sound issue

I'm hoping to get a rough estimate of the percentage of original run CO sonics that stopped functioning. I have one myself that's still working (knock on wood), so I know they didn't all have the issue, or at least some of them are less likely to cease function. What I'd like is for everybody here who bought one of the originals that had the hidden sound effects to chime in and just say if your sonic is or isn't still working. Reason being I just got one of the universal remotes and I'm thinking of going the NMR route and combining it with my toy sonic, but I have some concerns that I'd finish the build and my sonic would crap out a week later.

Yea, I don't do it a lot for the same reason, but occasionally I'll try them for fun.

Mine worked up until a few weeks ago. The thing is i dont know if it was because the sound board just blew out or i frakked it up by rewiring the battery pack.

Take it that this is the 11th Doctor's. Mine stopped working, but it makes a nice torch. (Would be nicer if the LED was as bright as the CO 10 sonic.)

Aparently there's a fix if your sonic blows out:

Hold it vertically (led at the top) and hit it rapidly with your hand whilst holding down the button.
WHEN you get a blip hold it down for 10 seconds

I've had the exra sounds sonic for a couple years now with no issues. The new one I bought from Barns & Noble that I used for my remote conversion had the extra sounds as well. So far so good.

Interesting, where did you hear about that fix Matt? Is it tested by a reliable source? Maybe somebody here who's sonic broke could try it out and report?

I'm getting more psyched about the conversion. I haven't been home to try it out on my tv, but the functionality doesnt seem very conducive for the purposes of a prop replica to troop with.

I've got a flashlight (broken sound sonic), and while recording an episode of his podcast I managed to accidentally bust my friend Bob Mitch's last month and bought him a replacement so there are potentially a couple of broken ones floating around. I tried Matt's fix but didn't see any difference.

Mine's about 9 months old and still going. Like others, I haven't used the hidden sounds much out of fear of breaking it.

That's because sound is sonic, not visual. :p

Woot! :lol

I read about that fix on a DW website somewhere where a similar thread was running. I haven't tried it myself, as I haven't had the same problem.

And hey, this is a unique thread, as it has not yet devolved into name calling. Can we start a flame war now, if only for consistency???? :lol:facepalm

Munson, you're a doofus.

My sonics all perform flawlessly for me because every now and then I pick one up, show it to all the others and say that it has not lived up to my expectations and walk from the room with it. They never see it again. The sheer terror they feel at what fate may await them makes sure they always work at 110%.

Mind you, I'm only putting them in the other display case but they don't know that.

Maybe I should try that with my Baker sound sonic. That thing hasn't worked right since day 2.

Wazzy, you got rep points for that one! :lol
