CLONE WARS weekly discussion thread

I have a prediction for the last episode...

I bet we see Moff Gideon installed on Mandalore.

Saw it last night, and wasn't terribly entertained by it. There were some neat scenes, but otherwise, it was pretty boring.

The good: Visually great. Neat seeing Maul contained in the Mandalorian force user box. Direct tie in between ROTS. How Rex was saved. Some tense scenes despite knowing that Rex and Ahsoka will make it (that is not a spoiler).

The bad: Blade Runner tones that while fit the tone of the episode, just don't work with Star Wars. IF it makes me think of something other than Star Wars, it's a fail. Maul
being captured by Ashoka only to be released by Ashoka for such a weak reason
, dumb droids scene, and actually pretty boring and underwhelming.

I felt the same way :(

Holy mother of god... the last episode.... left me and my wife speechless.. in tears at the end.. it will piss cannon purists off but as George said, on screen is cannon vs print media. I "liked" this version better then the book Ahsoka (which I love).. man, going to need to rewatch this a few more times...

Episode had no plot advancement at all, it was just nothing but action. It was still VERY good and I enjoyed it. Ahsoka's involvment in order 66 felt rushed though.

I kind of see the last four episodes as one long back to back.. I'm more upset they spent four episodes on the useless sisters arc... I'd rather see four more episodes on this last four..

I Think that ultimately, it will play better as a full movie rather than individual episodes.

Personally, I would have enjoyed a bit more plot development, bit I think this worked

Crazy... just crazy

I was wondering if they would mirror the ending of the book... kind of..

But the very end with the snow.. I wonder how long that takes place after...

I’ll go into detail later to avoid spoilers but I think there’s a few hints..

WOW! What and end to an incredible series! That final scene has me wishing for a new show covering the period between ROTS and ANH. I know Rebels was in this period, but it was more towards ANH. I would love to see what Asoka and Rex get up to, especially how Rex reunites with those other troopers in Rebels.

Now I can't wait for The Mandalorian season 2!

Well. Lots of great action in the last episode, but not much substance to it unfortunately.

And the last 5 minutes was absolutely useless with the long drawn out tones. Not every second needs to be filled with musical sounds. Let the scenes set the tone.

I honestly can't believe people cried over this. It was fun to watch, but the last 2 eps were easily a 1 episode story draaaaaaaawn out needlessly to 2

It's hard being so rough on something I liked overall, but it was a very unremarkable ending to the series.

It was fun though.

Hugely disappointed by this season to be honest.

Last four episodes, despite issues, were entertaining, but didn't really add anything significant for me. I understand the tie-in nature to ROTS film, but I feel Obi-wan and Anakin were a big miss in the majority of this season.

I think Aayla might have been hampered by being shot in the back by surprise.

Clones were behind Ahsoka as well. Also clones were behind Yoda.

The problem goes back to Revenge of the Sith and possibly even to Attack of the Clones and how poorly those movies were planned in the script with the Clones. Actually, I watched the first part of Revenge of the Sith on TV a few days ago. And I still can't believe how bad it is. It reminded me of what that funny video by Retroblasting says when he says "doesn't matter to them" about all the stuff in the sequels. That Star Wars to a lot of people might just be the Star Wars music, space ship battles, and lightsaber fights.

Anyway, Hot Toys teased some Clone Wars stuff so hopefully we will get an Ahsoka figure. I would love to get an Ahsoka statue from Sideshow Toys. But I have their Shaak Ti statue (and Aayla for that matter) so I'll be ok I guess with the two female Jedi statues.

Ahsoka entered the room and was facing Rex and those in there first, so was alerted to there being a problem.

Yoda felt the deaths of the others in the Force, as shown in the film, before the clones were given the order to execute him. Therefore he was already alerted to something being very wrong, and far more powerful than 99% of the rest of the Order. Or just simply had to survive for ESB to make sense....

I think George Lucas said almost those exact words in the Revenge of the Sith commentary. That all the Jedi have to die except for Yoda and Obi-Wan.

But not to go into it completely on a forum. They are Jedi. They sense things. Most were in war zones. Jedi don't need to see a gun aimed at them to know something is incoming. I've read too many stories that attempt to explain away the easy death of so many Jedi. And it's only somewhat believable for the poor Jedi or children / younglings.

Honestly, I do the opposite of George Lucas now. If he says only the movies count or something like that. I say only the good stories count. So the original non special editions for me, Rogue One, Solo to some extent, and The Clone Wars comics and episodes that I enjoy, as well as some of the books.

If they want to bring back Darth Maul. Then as far as I'm concerned Aayla, Barriss, and Shaak Ti are still alive. The comic and book versions, not the actors that just stood around in the prequel movies. Mace Windu is still alive too like Samuel Jackson says. He floated down and caught on to a car like Anakin in Attack of the Clones. This is what happens when movies aren't consistent.

One thing that greatly impressed me was what appeared to be the physics of space debris. How it continued to travel with the Star Destroyers rather than trail behind it like in an atmosphere. And expand out and away as well. It was just very neat to see.

They also mentioned Shaak Ti involved in recovering Palpatine. For those that don’t know, she was originally filmed killed by Grievous on his ship. In the last episode of the Clone Wars shorts (no longer canon even before Disney) that aired before right before the premiere of Revenge of the Sith they showed her perusing Grievous to his ship. Again for those that don’t know, she was also filmed being killed by Anakin at the temple. Later her death was part of The Force Unleased story line which is now non canon. I’m not sure what the official death is as the Star Wars databank does not say anything about her death.
Wookieepedia does, with references. There's missing data in the canon to establish the entire throughline, but it's mostly there. Her original death at the hands of Grievous on the Invisible Hand in front of Obi-Wan and Anakin was filmed -- and decided against -- early on. An EU Jedi was slated to take her place in the Council scenes, but that was reversed when the death scene was cut, and another scene with her after Palpatine's rescue was filmed. But Grievous had her lightsaber on Utapau. The decision had been made to instead have her die at the Jedi Temple, but it never went beyond animatic. She's meditating, Vader walks in, she asks what he wants, and he stabs her through the back.

Dave seems to have a gift for weaving continuity out of George's repeated mind-changes. TCW reinforced the Temple death by giving Yoda a vision that matched the animatic. The new Marvel comics, early on, had a holocron she recorded during Order 66, minutes before Vader got there, urging whoever found and was able to open it to continue the legacy of the Jedi. Which just left the matter of how Grievous got her lightsaber. So having mention of her being involved in the boarding of the Invisible Hand ties that together. It just leaves, now, the question of how the heck she got off the ship.

To be fair, Grievous also has Anakin's AND Obi-Wan's lightsabers during his duel on Utapau as well - WHILE he's dueling Obi-Wan. Not to mention the lightsabers each switch between blue and green throughout the duel. I don't put much stock in identifying the original wielder Grievous took the saber from based on the lightsabers he has in hand at any given time.

Can anyone remember who attempted an initial rescue from the Invisible Hand in the RotS novelisation? I seem to remember something about the lifeless body of Pablo Jill being blasted out the hangar by Grievous? Was that ever part of the script that was removed (like Shaak Ti), or just an invented scene?

*Checked the Wiki and apparently that was the case RE the novelisation.
