Clone Trooper DC-15S

Hi there everyone,

As a bit of a break from Death Star tiles, and to help out a friend who is building some clone armour, I offered that I would have a go at making a clone blaster last summer.

I have finally got around to painting a casting and thought you might like to have a look. :O)

Although my friend will use it for 'trooping' eventually, I was more interested in getting a more accurate replica of the movie 'prop'.

The trickiest part really was making a decision on the overall dimensions and as far as I was aware there is no definative documentation of how big it is supposed to be. This led me to making some assumptions. The first thing I did was to scale some of the promo shots to the given height of Temuera Morrison (assuming he was wearing clone armour) and work out the length of the gun from that. It was HUGE.

I then cross referenced it with some of the dimensions from a Sterling, most noticably the barrel diameter and folding stock width, and found that both these dimensions were a ratio of each other.

One thing I wished I'd done in hind-sight was to find out the dimensions of an mg34 receiver, as this is obviously an inspiration.

In the end I went with the sterling dimensions which, although I do think make the blaster potentially too small, still leave you with a hand grip that is uncomfortably large !!!!! That's the problem with CG designed props!

Anyway hope you like it.

First the cast resin components (sorry forgot to include the front 'sights')

Finally painted!

It's quite a bit more weathered than I originally planned but I just liked the look of it so much!!!!

Looks great. Does it weigh alot? Would you be offering kits as I'd love to have one for display.

That is sweet! The weathering looks like it's been around so for 20 years and the Rebels are using it. I agree about the lack of sizing for some of these guns. I wish something official would come out that would at least give us a length.

I'm sure he'll do an even better job of the painting than I have!!!

@ Boomer, I do have the gun moulded but I don't think I can make it at an affordable price :O(

My casting is REALLY heavy, about 1.5 kg, but I did cast one in a more expensive, lighter resin for the guys to 'troop' with, but that was still about a kilo!

I think that most builders follow the blueprints made by WizardOfFlight, including his idea of dimensions.

I have noticed that some casters of E-11s cast a wooden dowel rod inside the blaster. I don't know exactly how they do it, though.
Considering that your blaster is cast as several pieces, perhaps you could make it so that the pieces are hollow and made to fit over a standard PVC pipe.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.

Out of interest does anyone know the dimensions of an mg34 receiver?

Well what would be in your mind a estimate price. You never know If it's affordable until somebody wants it. I already have a shorty but it weighs like 3kgs so yours is a tad lighter.

I have done a bit of number crunching and have worked out that to offer this as a kit price would have to be £150 including postage.

I'll put a thread in the marketplace sometime soon but if your interested just PM me :)

Thanks kurtyboy :O)

The length is about 530mm from receiver end to front of barrel, 560mm if you include the 'folding' stock.

I love how you did it in sections I have been wanting to create a DC-15s (or a DC-15a hehe) for Trooping myself. Where did you go about getting the blueprints if you don't mind me asking.
