Clear Resin Polish in the UK?

I have a set of amber PKD grips that I need to polish up. Halfords have a whole selection of waxes and polishes, but I have no idea what the best product is to use.

Anyone done this?

hey bud,

don't know what polish would be good, but what also might work is using a abbrasive like 'Cif' and a toothbrush and then give it a couple of light coats of clearcoat automotive laquer.

that's what i do for the clear parts of the Neurion inhalers from Minority Report.

cheers,

Marc

I just coated mine with a couple of layers of Future floor polish.

*edit* I have heard you can get Future in the UK under the brand name Klear

If there aren't any scratches in the grips, it should wrk just fine for you too.

Using a Q-tip to apply it, I did the grip side first, covered it with a piece of Glad-ware to avoid dust ruining the finish, and let it dry over the course of a couple of days. The Future is very self-leveling so it won't pool up and I've never had a problem with bubbles on the surface, etc.

When it was completely dry, I flipped it and did the back side in the same manner.

When dry, the Future still retains that "wet slick" look and is great.

I'll try and get a picture up in this post shortly to show you what it can look like.

*edit* Here's a pic of the finished product:

Now there's shiny. Also looking for this stuff in the UK. So thanks from me too. :)

Johnsons Klear Floor Polish - apparently £2.34 per 500ml at Tescos, according to Google.

Might I ask - whats the problem with scratches in the grip? Would they need to be 'filled' with the stuff before coating the grips?

What I meant was that if there are deep scratches or gouges in the grips, the polish would just make those shiny too and that wouldn't look very professional.

It won't help at all with scratch removal or filling, strictly shinyness.

I usually give my grips a good overall wetsanding with some 2000 grit paper to make sure everything is uniformly smooth before using the Future polish.

Make sure you cover your grips up while they dry as dust particles can and will land on uncovered parts and muck up the finish. As I said, I usually cover mine with a piece of Tupperware and leave a small gap at the bottom to allow some air flow in, but not much. It can take up to 2 full days to fully dry but the end result can't be beat.
