Clear Iron Man 3D printed Helmet

Hi Guys,

Today I printed a clear Iron Man helmet (scaled WAYYY down). It's about 4" tall for reference

For those who know their way around 3D printing, this was done on an Object Connex 500 machine. There's still some support material residue, which is why it looks kinda hazy.

I couldn't find a super awesome model and I had to do some janky (but legal!) stuff to get this model to work. I think it turned out all right though. Just thought I'd share.

What's awesome about those Objet machines is that you can print working machines and tools. A local prototyping company here has printed a variety of hand tools that have gears and threaded components that work right off the press bed for example purposes. Wonderful machines, I'd love to mess around with one.

I didn't have to pay for it :p All part of the job.

These particular machines run between 100K and 250K (i can't remember off the top of my head though)

thanks for looking guys! :)

Very Nice. I printed my full size helmet out at 1/4 scale a few months ago on the same machine. Not a detail missing. :)

Damn... now I want an "active camo" iron man helmet in clear resin, as well as a master chief one :lol

Very cool!!!!!!

I wonder if there are any compaines out there that u can send a file to and they will make something for you ???.....those 3-d printers are so cool

There are a few sites out there that do high quality prototyping that you'd have more control over. Here are two:

protcafe.com
studiofathom.com

Not if you're looking for quality parts delivered. Shapeways takes a LOT of work to make look good.

They're great for some things but I avoid them for finished parts.

Have to disagree with you here. The only place we have ever used has been Shapeways and I've never had anything but awesome prints form them. :)
Here is my 1:4 scale Iron Man helmet I had them print and it has some of the smallest detial I have ever seen. And one of my Unibeam.

boshwan527 if you would like I can remove the image NP. :)

The more the merrier Finhead!

I would have to side with Finhead. Everything I've seen from shape ways has been great. They use the same printers that anyone else would. You just have to pay for those materials. Although I'm not sure how much control you have over multi-material prints. I've never done that through shapeways
