I am using gold leaf Rub'N'Buff on my Defiant plaque. Can I use Testors clear coat after applying the gold? Or should I just spray the painted plaque with clear coat then uuse the Rub'N'Buff?

There's acutally a product put out by rub n buff that seals it. You should be able to get it at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I would suggest using that instead of a standard paint sealant since rub n buff is a wax.

Don't use Testors clear coat, it won't hold and will be sticky (at least when I tested it). Krylon Matte or Gloss has worked for me, but I have had it alter the depth of the color at times. It's dulled some of the metallic at times, not horribly but enough where you might not like the result.

I've never tried the rub n' buff sealer, but everything else just seems to knock the shine off and makes it look like bad metallic paint. In the past, I just left it bare and touched it up when it needed it.

Good Luck!

I've sprayed standard clear coat on Rub and Buff before. It gets tacky, but dries out after awhile.

for rubb n buff you're supposed to use an acrylic clear coat, not enamel

any acrylic coating will do, and bonus... no long wait for dry time

Thanks all.

If I use testors on the painted surface then apply rub'n'buff, would I then have trouble with the rub'buff on the clear coated surface?
