Chibi Vader costume spotted on Halloween

OK, not literally a super-deformed Vader, but close.

I took my son to a Halloween party at our local athletic club. Probably 200-300 people throughout the facility. While we were out by the pool, a guy in a Vader costume comes striding in.

He was probably 6'0" (hard to tell with the helmet on, but factoring in the rise on the helmet dome), definitely on the tubby side, but generally of average build. The helmet, itself, however, was HUGE. I mean, it looked like it was meant for a Vader who was nine feet tall and 350 pounds. Seriously disproportionate to the rest of the body, and much bigger than anything I've ever seen offered around here. I can't imagine it was studio-scale.

What piqued my curiosity was that the helmet otherwise looked good. I never got really close, but it definitely didn't look like Party City calibre. I even spotted a relatively accurate neck-seal in the back of the helmet. Honestly, if it wasn't so oversized, I would have expected it to come from MR or someone here.

I've never seen an MR helmet, but if they really came from the master made for Hayden Christensen, they shouldn't be this big. It looks too big for even David Prowse.

Anyone have any idea who might have produced (or been producing) above-average Vader helmets that were somewhat oversized?

Thanks,

Sounds like an MR SS Vader. Was the neck seal smooth...without greeblies? Unless it was a fan made, the MR was the only lid that came with a neckseal.
No "oversized" helmets being produced as far as I know. I think that because the person was undersized for Vader, that's why the helmet looked too big.

out of curiousity, you have seen a studio scale helmet in person right?

they are quite bigger than your average don post standard.

surely you know that... and on that note... that is ODD to say the LEAST...

hmm...

maybe the guy is an artist/prop maker, and he has a fat head and its a personal sculpt?

never even seen anything like that joked about.

now there was a display back during ep3s release that was HUGE. but it was also not accurate, and woulda fit more in with the super deformed theme that you said it sorta was... yet accurate.

hmm...

you didnt have a camera?

did anyone you know at this facility get pics?

find out and get back. cause that is interesting...

I've seen other Vader helmets, in what (I thought, at least) was studio scale, on average-sized people, and while they did look a bit disproportionate, they looked nothing like this. Neck seal had greeblies, BTW.

I was too busy with my son to pull out the camera phone. The prop snob in me also was saying "Meh. Definitely above average, but not camera-worthy". ;)

Interestingly, no one really seemed to care too much about the Vader. I get the feeling he expected to show up and have people flock around him, "oooh-ing and ahhh-ing". He got a little love, but looked a bit disappointed he didn't get more.

...if the neck seal had greeblies, then it probably wasn't an MR...unless he changed it. Did you happen to notice if the front of the neck scoop was lower, i.e. did it sit under the armor?

Too bad you didn't snap a pic...

Again, I didn't have time to get a closer look. His big melon just jumped out at me, as distinctive as if he had painted it bright yellow. Can't say about the size of the front scoop, but I did notice that he didn't have chest armor, or any other armor.

Which is puzzling that the guy went the distance on some of the costume, but completely ignored the other parts. If he knew enough to add greeblies that were even half-way accurate, I'm amazed he couldn't manage to find some black sunblock somewhere.

Maybe it was a SS MR and I'd just not ever seen it before (even though I'm pretty sure that I have).
