Theres about 4 or 5 Ironman helmets on this forum right now and everybody doing stuff a little different, so I am just gleaming. Again, was only curious.

I've found smooth cast-roto very easy to work with, much better than doing it out of fiberglass. Smooth cast 300 flashes too fast and you might get a clump. With an open mold like mine I can easily chase it around the mold and see where it's flowin. Also several thin layers right after each other will give the best results. Mine has 5 layers , 8 oz. for total weight 40 oz.(2.5lbs)

Ah! Thanks for the clarification. I just used up my last gallon of SC300 and need to buy some more stuff. I'll check it out!

You can't squeeze the one peice, the two part version can be squeezed. But not much.(when i cut it up i guess it loses it's circular rigidity.) SO some flexablity. It's very flexable when thin and still quite durable. I like my parts about 1/4" thick and rigid.

So do I. I've been casting helmets with SC300, too, but no matter how much fiberglass I add, it always stays, somewhat, semi-flexible. Plus, the more fiber-cloth and resin you add, the more time you spend casting.

the roto will be somewhat flexible unless you put it on really thick. i actually think of that as a good thing though...

roto is supposed to be more impact resistant because of that. bend before it breaks and all.

it's not squishy, but it's also not rigid. it's slightly firmer than a DP 95 fett helmet if that helps, but not much more.

i do mine on the thin side because i want them to stay flexy. at 1/8" thick you can bend a fett helmet to where the front visor opening almost touches without it breaking.
