Cheap Indy Holy Grail repaint

Bought one of this chip asian grail props from ebay...it was a schock when I opened the package.So started to repaint it because the overall shape was not so bad.

I think with some "grooves" on the inside it would look better.Whats the best tool to make a pattern like this?

That's what I did on mine, put it on a lathe and use course sandpaper while it spun.

A couple of other options, you could use a wire brush attachment on a drill to cut into the resin. For a more shallow cut (on the gold), you can lightly go over it with steel wool.
 
Thanks...that are great tips.I think I will use the steel wool first.If it looks not good I can spray new gold on it.
I used some sandpaper before I painted the gold but the scratches are not deep enough for the accurate look.The gold covered it up.:unsure
