I've just been watching the 2009 Che Guevara movie and was wondering if anyone could identify this shirt/jacket for me?

At first i thought they were wearing WWII U.S clothes but now i'm thinking it's more Vietnam era?

Well, someone could be doing a Che costume even just for reenactment purposes, politics are not discussed (or accepted) on the forum, so I (IMHO) don't really see the problem asking just for some info on that shirt!;)

And surely that shirt as an interesting look... Looks like a shirt, but the thick canvas make it look like a jacket... Quite interesting... Sorry, I have no clue about it, but I wish you good luck for your hunt!:)

I didn't mean to bring politics up. My apologies.

The same reason i'm interested in it :)

Hopefully i didn't offend, i'm still learning about Che and hopefully what i posted was OK?

I'm not offended if your doing a costume for re-inactment purposes like he stated, it's just because of what my mother's side of my family went through, I find it really disrespectful when I see people wearing che shirts, as if people believe he's some great revolutionist or something.

I don't think that a che costume has anything to do with politics, its just a movie costume...

Don't think that i like Che, i am not.

The jacket reminds me Asian designs, like those whored by VC's.
Cheap and easy to produce on high numbers.

But it can be a U.S Military Jacket too, discolored by weather and time. I don't know.
I have see U.S. Military like uniforms of the Hellenic Army, and always, the color was Olive Green or Dark Olive green.

Check out about Che on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara
There are some good photos of hes jacket there.

Skating along the raggedy edge of the Political precipice, I'd point out that you're probably close to the mark there. The VC and Che were both backed by the USSR, who supplied both equipment and strategic advice, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that their equipment was made by the same manufacturers of the mighty Soviet juggernaut.

Thanks for your help guys.
Again, it wasn't my intention to make this political, i was just asking about the clothes in the movie.

If I may...

Remember, Che and his berthren were from Cuba and most likely used items stolen or obtained from the Cuban Army. The Cuban Army was US supported and backed, so logically fatigues and gear would be a US pattern, sometimes locally produced. In the movie it looks like his uniform is locally produced US pattern Herring Bone Twill with some modifications, like straps on the shoulders for example. The big side pockets on his trousers are another indication of this heritage.
The bags, belts and holsters are all either US supplied or locally produced varients of US patterns, I see a 10 pocket cartrdge belt, a US mussette bag and a 1911A1 Holster (w/o the "US" on the flap).

To my untrained eye, it looks a bit like an M65 Field Jacket that the US military used to use and has been in countless films and television shows and as a base in various designer jackets. It isn't an exact match. It just looks similar and would probably be a "close enough" match.

You can see a long list of various uses in movies and television.

What is interesting is that Belstaff makes a replica of a jacket Che wore. Be prepared to spend some money on it though.

As far as Che and politics... oh I'm sure that piece-of-*#$# would be rolling in his grave if he knew how commercial his image and name has become. Or maybe he'd say mission accomplished in infiltrating people's inner-minds?:lol Afterall, a man may die, but an idea never does... which is unfortunate in this case imo. ;)

Isn't this the person whose Andy Warhol-like painting was seen in certain campaign headquarters here in the US recently? Or was that some photoshop trickery? Just genuinely curious if I'm completely on the wrong track here... :confused
