I was able to get a copy from an original prop of the Chachapoyan Temple Stone Face. I myself am a total newbie to that kind of stuff and its all learning by doing. I wanted to share the way I did the mold, maybe its useful for others, maybe not.

this is the original one:

here is my copy:

this copy is made out of a polyurethane foam and need a paint job. since I never did that before and dont wanted to mess my copy, I first tried to make a copy myself. I had a lot of investigation and browsing the web, till I had an idea and all needed materials:

First step was to make a mold out of silicone. It was applied in four layers. to be able to tell wich is wich, they get coloured with red and blue pigment:

after this mold silicone mold was finished, I needed to make another mold to stabilize the silicone foam:

after deforming I have a perfect mold :

I filled it with a polyurethane foam....

and again after deforming I have a perfect copy......

I painted that with a surface primer, in the next days I will buy some paint and will try to make it look like stone.......

Love it - seen it posted on quite a few boards now (including the interest list over at indy.mamo-net.de) - but aren't these just the ones that elstree make and sell on eBay from time to time?

Surely you can't just make a mold and resell them?

yes, I believe, that elstree sold some of them too...well, they made the original prop.

my main intention is to build this paneel together with one or two panels, where the arrows were shot.
this picture shows what I have in mind:

Guys, I removed all the "I want one" posts. This isn't the JY, this is a show off thread. All buying/selling/interest-taking needs to take place in the JY.

Thanks!

That's pretty cool! I'm looking forward to see how you do the stone coloration.

today I had some time to finish the paintjob of my mask. I have first used a light grey primer, then used several layers of different waterbased brown acrylic paint:

I got this mask from ebay and it is not my original sculpt. it is one that I have purchased and molded for my personal use.
the ebay seller made this copy basing on a recently auctioned piece from Elstree Studios, that he won.

That's cool and completely fine but that should also end the "I want a copy" posts. :lol

Your weathering makes the piece look very realistic, great job.
