Casting question. (LGMKII)

I am building a gun right now (LawGiver MKII *BP by Skeg*) and I am planning on molding it, but I would like to try and make some hollow castings of it so that I can put some electronics into it (El panel and a couple of LEDs.

The only molds I've made are for helmets and a few two part molds. But I have seen some gun kits (bladerunner blasters) that come in two halves, any suggestions on how to do that? Or maybe even a different suggestion that'll be better than what I'm thinking?

Re: Casting question.

Forgot a picture!!! This is where it stands now. Still not done though. The magazine is removable by the way.

You dont really need much room inside for lighting and a battery. Basic LED's can be powered off button cells or a CR123 with a resistor. Rout out any areas that need to house the components and simply add a plate over the access area.

If that wont work you can try your luck at fiberglass halves and go from there. Its a lot of finish work and detail though.

If that wont do it for you I suggest molding that clip thing in the front separately as well ass the upper slide and lower section. More silicone yes but if your sneaky it also means minimal seam lines and allows you to rout into the sections discretely.

Hmmmm... That could be cool... But I don't know how comfortable I am chopping this thing into pieces... :-/

your either chopping or doing shells that will require lots of finishing. This is why forward thinking is key when fabricating a master. Ideally the add on parts to the existing pistol would be cast separately.

I hate typing on my phone and I won't be able to use my computer until Sunday so this will be light on details. Make a two part mold but do not worry about keys because you will mold each side separately. Then do something like the link at the end of this to make a plug for each side to create a hollow only you will use silicone for the "core" and you will not encapsulate it when you cast the parts.
