Casting latex on latex?

Hi all!

I've been working on a project what succeeded for so far, but when completing my sculpt, I realized that it would be handy to make a negative out of latex.
That's not really a problem. But I was planning to get it poured in with latex too. I know that pouring latex on latex doesn't work because it's gonna stick.

Is there any mold release that helps pulling a latex positive out of a latex negative?

OR: does anyone know what's the cheapest solution?

I think this is the only place where I can get my answers.

Generally you want to have a rigid negative for a flexible positive and vice versa. Or in otherwords, if your plan is to make the positive out of latex you may be better off using something like Plaster of Paris (reinforced with cheese cloth, burlap, etc.) than to try latex on latex.

wax isn't to expensive you may want to do a pull with wax (not to hot) then do a plaster mold, heat it so the wax pores out. then you have your rigid mold.

I like silicon spray lube. you might get away with using it as you mold release.

Give us an update when you get results , It's always fun to do test pieces first.

your main problem is that for latex you generaly need an absorbant type mould. thats the reason that stones are used as a rule for latex masks etc. the stone draws out the mouisture leaving a uniform skin behind it. excess latex is poured off and the skin allowed to cure before pulling. with a latex mould you would need to paintin the latex layer by layer. this take a long time and has a big disadvange it will shrink a lot more resulting in a bad fit and possible distortion. I would suggest anyone with an intrest in prosthetics or masks join a brilliant forum called the fx lab www.theeffectslab.com a fantastic resource, i'm a moderator over there and its a very friendly place full of amateurs and pros alike. a few members of this forum are there already.

green dish soap works well but not too thick as it will start to fill the small detail areas. You can thin it a little with water but not too much.
