Carbon-Freeze Vader Saber...an MPP. The Definitive ESB

Alright, this thing has bothered me for awhile.
This saber looked like a King Sol based on the trigger button on the side. Now having my replica MPP in my hands and turning it around I have second thoughts.

What if that supposed trigger button is something plugged into the "E" socket of an MPP? The screw above it and the hole below match the MPP screw and rivet holes. The band is lower than the ANH, but not alot. Considering the band is lower the grips probably aren't as long as believed.
The known MPP in ESB also has the clamp lower than ANH.

I was also thinking that the Carbon-Freeze saber might have a shroud like the Barbican version, but the step is too shallow- it matches the MPP's shroud as I originally thought.
So, MPP clamp, shroud and seemingly the tube as well- so the question is what the heck is in the "E" socket!

Paul- I need your opinion on this!

You know, the thought crossed my mind several times too, esp. when noticing that screw-like thing above the button.

BUt I figured that was probably the screw that holds the button-plate there. But the problem with this theory is that if this is so, the shroud should be slightly further away from the screw as the shroud can only go so far in as the edge of the button plate.

But since I have a great Kign Sol (2, in fact), I would rather believe it's a King Sol..

Holly crap, I think you might be right, if that were a King Sol there should be a plate around thebutton and the little screw, which there doesn't apear to be in the above pic. Can you blow it up any more?

I wonder if it might be a remote plug that they just cut the wire off of. Or maybe the original owner hard wired the plug, like some Graflex owners did (the Graflex's you see on e-bay with the cord coming out of the glass eye socket).

It could also be an added pice that they thought would just look cool. I think they payed more atention to little details in makeing the ESB props, like the "B" socket on the main MPP saber being painted red and the second red button on Luke saber.

Hmm. this is wierd, I never liked this version of the vader sabre so I never payed it any mind, but this has peaked my interest. I wish there were more photo's of the damn thing.

That very pic is what made me skeptical of the king sol. I, can clearly see the landmarks of an MPP there. It just makes more sense that they used another or the same MPP. The sabers didn't disappear until before Jedi..........I'm glad another board member sees what I see.

On the pro-KS side, I also remembered someone on the board saying a while back that they spoke to people in LFL who confirmed that King Sols WERE used.

But I didn't think LF made the props, Bapty did. I also kinda doubt they would remeber the kind of flash, it's rally not something that would be important to those guys.

I am at school-so I do not have the book, the old ESB storybook has a full page color photo of that-and it looked like square holes to me. Does someone have it? Chris

Paul, it might not have been LFL that the boardmember spoke to - I just said LFL on the assumption that it was.

HOpe that board member will see this and clarify.
From (my very hazy) memory, it was someone like Gav, or maybe not... dunno...

I'm preaty sure Bapty did both ANH and ESB, that's why there's so many similarities between ANH and ESB props and why the ROTJ stuff is so different. It would also explain how they got an MPP for ESB, I realy doubt they would have known what to look for otherwise.

i dont have the pic, but the scene for the saber im building with larrys mpp is the one where hes test freezing han.

as long as its an mpp in that scene , im a happy man.

btw, anyone have any good pics of how the grips are supposed to look on this bad boy? ive seen em ranging from slanted to squared off , etc.

well, if it IS an mpp im happy. thats the only reason i bought the mpp from larry. i wanted to make this saber, as the vader upper body shot is the pic that i have autographed.

if its not an mpp, damnation.

just curious, but if this is the "carbon freeze" scene, what do you call the lightsaber battle scene for it? i thought this was the one where vader was whipping luke like a red headed stepchild and dropped him in the carbonite pit.
