Captain Rex poncho (Bad Batch) expertise needed!

Hi guys!
Haven't posted here in a long time and I think it's about time I ask the pros for help!

I want to make Captain Rex's poncho seen in the Bad Batch show, but not just in any material... I kind of want it to be water/weather resistant so I can actually use it outdoors as a proper poncho.

So I've been thinking about some kind of waxed canvas, but I have a feeling that would be too rigid, but if I use wool or cotton it'll just soak in rain, right?
Any help in this would be amazing!
Thanks in advance!

You can coat materials to make them waterproof.

Have you looked at the one Jyn Erso has in Rogue One?
It's listed as a coated cotton.

Absolutely, that is one option. But even with a water resistant coating, that poncho does seem to get partially soaked here and there. But then again, depends on how and what you coat your material in.

Thanks for your reply, I have to look into this some more!
