Captain Phasma

Hello! This is my first posting on the RPF so bear with me.

I just saw The Force Awakens for the second time this weekend time and I'm completely head over heels in love with it. Namely head over heels in love with Captain Phasma. I've been cosplaying for three years now and have some basic skills (sewing, foam prop construction, Worbla armor etc.) but have never attempted a Star Wars costume. So I was wondering what's the best way to begin building a Phasma costume? I've been keeping an eye on this forum, which led me to the 501st, which led me to a Stormtrooper costuming forum (I figure Phasma's armor is pretty close to a Stormtrooper's look, sans that beaky helmet) where a lot of people were discussing the pros and cons of kits. I don't necessarily go for complete screen/comic accuracy in my costumes since I don't compete and don't have a lot of disposable income and the kits seem to be extremely expensive. I would also be willing to commission key pieces, like the helmet and chestplate.

Any advice on where to begin?

Thanks everyone!

Hey,

whitearmor site is probably a good place to ask I would imagine.

I'm not a TK myself but I do have friends in the 501st or more specifically, UKG as I'm in the UK.

The kits can be quite expensive indeed, verging on £1000 or more spent when finished.

If you're adept with pep you could make some yourself using card/fibreglass and bondo or there should be some foam patterns popping up as time goes on. you might have to pay for the pattern (has fierfek on here done any TFA patterns yet?) but you can then build it yourself from foam cheaply enough if perfect accuracy isn't a constraint for you.

If you want a proper kit it would be vac-formed abs most likely and then you'd have to cut/trim/adjust it to fit you as well as sourcing accurate paint/boots etc.. I think anovos do a TFA kit but it's still not what I would consider cheap.

Good luck with it, hopefully phasma will have more of a part to play in the next movie :)
