CAPTAIN AMERICA: TFA suit

Trying my hand at sewing and I'm liking the results so far. The helmet sculpt is coming along and I already finished one of the shoulder pads. The only problem is that I don't have any leather to make the helmet straps, boots, gloves, belt, etc. Does anyone know a good site for buying cheap leather or faux leather?

Tandey Leather. Or you can hit any fabric store and get some vinyl.

What material are you using for the costume? As far as leather goes look for remnants at local craft stores, vinyl is a good alternative. Everything looks great, I've been wanting to do a cap costume for a while just haven't found the right material, good luck and welcome to the forum.

For someone trying out sewing, you are doing a great job!
It looks exactly like the movie costume!!:thumbsup

Are you using any special pattern to get this right?

Nice.

What fabric are you using? Looks pretty accurate.

lol. The fabric is actually from $5 t-shirts from Target. I think its the foam i'm using underneath that is giving it the right look. Also, I got some leather-esque fabric today. I'm so excited to work on the gloves and boots. Thanks for all of the positive comments guys.

Looks great! If you're looking for pleather, Joann Fabrics will usually have something, most probably in their upholstery section.

Dude, this is amazing! Those t-shirts provide just the right texture! Quick question: it looks like you're using craft foam to get the raised details. Are you just sewing the sections through one piece of foam or did you cut out the individual sections?

@Clone-exra1 - The effect is done by doing 2 layers of foam. The base is just one big piece. On top of that I glued all of the separated section pieces. Then the fabric goes on top of that and you just sew between sections. Hope that makes sense. Hard to explain in text.

Great job on this build! I was going to try a similar approach with my shoulders, but being that I have a deadline and much more to finish, I just stitched on extra strips of fabric to give the effect. Looking forward to seeing the final outcome :)
