Been exhausting my google-fu in an attempt to ID Dum Dum Dugan's sweater/shirt. (As well as other pieces of his getup.) Keep striking out.

Any ideas?

The color and cut remind me of a "British commando sweater" without the epaulettes and shoulder pads.

On second though the ones you posted above have a higher collar.

I am SOOOOO making this costume! I am in the process of researching the tan combat vest he wears. Does anyone have any good photos which show it, besides the ones shown above?

It looks like an Irish "Donegal" Sweater either that or a fisherman's sweater both have a loose turtleneck just like the one in the pic's

I was thinking about this costume, but I'm not really read to shave my beard. It's perfect for me, though!

it's an old thread though the sweater was more than likely custom made. It looks like a nordic fishermans sweater. Two tone banded sweater. Looks like it was made on a knitting machine to me. Any one still re visit DumDum on release of Captain movies etc

Just updating thread - 20 years ago my mum was a seamstress and knitter.. she was took sick and I would use the knitting machine to make patterns and help her out. As such I could do jumpers similar to this in around 4 hours work... I don't know any one who uses knitting machines now though, so that is what makes me think it's custom made. Spoke to a number of friends, machinists and old knitters who use to specialize in the machines and quite a few have said the pattern/style could be duplicated quite easily on a machine.

We'd use a standard knit pattern from either a fisherman style pattern or a nordic sweater. then you would knit a row for say 30 rows, then swap the colours over and do the next 30rows with the next colour. One main body front would take me about 1.5hrs. From the images of DumDum I cant tell what stitch they finished the cuffs or waistline off with, but the neck looks like a double roll back which i would do for winter wear and cold climes.d give it ago as I get asked about the outfit and sweater alot while out and about!

If I ever come across a old machine for sale I might pick one up an
