Can't remove seam line with dremel! Help!

I just pulled two masks from one mold. There are seamlines that I have to get rid of. They're not very big. I am so nervous when using a dremel because EVERY time I seam a mask, the latex gets stuck in the rotating polish bit and goes for a spin. I'm not meaning just the seamline. It's as if the dremel wants to eat the whole mask. I'm afraid of messing up the motor or injuring myself. I've seen YT videos of people seaming masks this way and for whatever reason, what happens to me doesn't happen to them. I have no idea why it's doing this. Someone mentioned it has to be spinning very fast for it not to catch, but I sped up the motor to max and got the same result. Any idea how to remedy the problem? Or perhaps there's another way of seaming?

try the sanding drum instead of a polishing bit. Works great on foam latex, not sure about solid rubber.

No matter what you do, it's going to catch here and there. You've just got to take your time and use a steady hand. "Wetsanding" with naphtha on your polishing bit helps but proper safety gear, and especially a respirator, is an absolute must if you attempt it.

Try taking a wooden dowel or PVC pipe piece about the length of your hand. Place it inside the mask to hold tension so that the seam is more pronounced but won't collapse when you polish. Sanding drums are better than bits for this. The dowel will keep the latex from folding as you go and it might not bind up on you.

Ok, I think I figured out the problem I was running into. I was holding the mask with one hand while dremeling with the other. So instead I slipped the mask over my ultracal bust and it hardly catches at all now.

The company I used to work for taught me to cut the seam with curved critical scissors leaving about a few millimeters. Then go in with a dremal using the bullet shaped buffing tip. Go lightly and slowly. Don't rush.

Although it looks like you got it figured out, ill throw my hat in the ring lol. I think the biggest mistakes people make when using a dremel is to not rush. Let the tool do the work. Thats what its for. And i agree with all the methods mentioned. Use scissors or exacto knife and get the seam down as smal as possible. Then use a sanding drum or grind/polish bit to make it flush. They normally are grey colored or a tan and look like a bullet. Wrapping the mask around a pvc pipe qt the seam is another good suggestion. Your next mask should be a pc of cake with all the good advice you got :)
