Question cannot delete friend request?

I have an ancient friend request that I cannot delete, though have tried multiple times. I'm tired of looking at it. Can someone help me?

I uncheck box and hit save--nothing.
I uncheck box, choose to not friend and save--nothing.
I update page, refresh--old friend request still there.

Look, "The Dude". If you don't stop sending me friend requests, and leaving all those messages on my machine, I'm going to have to get a restraining order against you. We've been down this road before. Don't make me have to call the police. Again.
