I was wondering, can you cut MDF with a hole saw? I need 32 disc of .25X4" MDF This would be the fastest way to do it plus I need the center hole also. What do you folks think.

Umm, yep not a problem. That's pretty much the easiest and effective way to do it, only other way would be if you didn't have a 4" hole saw.

No need for a high or slow speed, as long as the saw is sharp, shouldn't burn anything.

your best bet is too use a router amd a DIY jig

Thank you both for your help! I got the hole saw so I'm going to try that first then if that won't work I'll rig up the router. I never worked with MDF so I wasn't sure how this stuff cuts.

If you cutting MDF always make sure that what your cutting it with is sharpe i.e replace the router bit with a new one.

If you use a new bit MDF finish will be good, but where a dust mask as MDF will produce very fine dust when using a router and will go every where.

Also make sure you do it outside:thumbsup

I would use a compass to draw the inner and outer circle.
Cut to within 1/16 of an inch of the line and use a table top belt sander to sand the material down to the line.

If you roll the disk while sanding you can get a very accurate circle.

The inner circle can be done with a hole saw or the same way as above except using a drum sander.

That is how I did the ribs for the engine pods on the Landspeeder I helped build.

I made 32 disks of Masonite spaced on wooden dowl rods and sheeted then with 3/32 balsa to get the shape.

The engine buck was used to make the pods.

You actually need more along the line of a 4 1/8" or even 4 1/4" hole saw as they are measured OD not ID...
