Can i Back up styrene with fiberglass

If you want superior hold on the styrene use epoxy based fiberglass resin, it has a higher bond strength over polyester resin...

Learn something new every day.

From what I have read, epoxy based fiberglass has a bond strength of about 2000 psi, while polyester has less then 500 psi...

Remember this is the "glue" strength to another surface, not the actual strength of the resin...

I did this very project on my Boba Fett backplate. I indeed sanded the crap out of it.... every square inch of it and used an epoxy based fiberglass. I laid down 3 or 4 layers, not sure since it's been a good 5 years.

It has never ever had one area of lift since completion. The heat did not warp the plastic since I didn't over use the catalyst, which if done improperly would indeed heat the crap out of it enough to warp.

Go with confidence, but go easy on any catalyst you may use.:thumbsup

I've reinforced crappy snowtrooper helmet pulls with regular hardware store fiberglass kits. You have to rough the hell out of the plastic to get the polyester resin to stick but it works well enough for a quick reinforce job.
