If I were to attempt such a thing, and I wouldn't, I would just do it. If it turned out remotely presentable, I'd be quite content with it and take pictures of it then. I'd certainly not take any pictures of the process for the sole purpose of proving to anyone here that I'm honest and capable. I find it sad that the assumption is I'd have to defend my work. The problem with recasting is that people are quick to condemn it, until it is something from which they can benefit, and then they will look the other way for a bit...
Well I would hope you wouldnt offer it to the public then. If your trying to replicate something very controversial and KNOW you going to get called out for it, you better cover your ass. As crappy as that sounds that an artist has to do something like that in this realm sucks IMO but thats the reality. Anyone whos been on these forums for more than a year knows the debates and debacles had about these helmets.A sculpter, to recreate these helmets from scratch, would be outright nuts not to take some kind of photo evidence of a build up to put down any debates brought up about its origins.
Heres a perfect example that happened to me
A few years ago I produced some fett armor, I had already owned a set of fett pride armor that was ROTJ and I had said in a thread that I was going to modifiy that armor to make it ESB. FP later responded to my comments at a much later date and I did not see them nor respond to them. Probable 6 months to a year later I decieded to sculpt my own armor from scratch and bronze cast it for vaccume forming. Well of course I did all of my work at school and cranked them out in a few days with only a few reference photos of the MoM exibit and of FP armor that I owned for general shape and reference
Fast forward a few months and I started offering my vaccume formed armor piece and I was called out w/out having explained myself and I was heavily questioned by my peers. I had explain the situation of how I didnt end up modifing my FP armor and started from scratch, missed the comments made by FP after mine and luckly I had one photo of my partial armor build up and my name was cleared. That and my armor look nothing like FP's anyways.
Believe me I never made that mistake again and I always take some kind of photos of my work up, especially if I plan to offer it to the community.
