Hi folks,

Do we have any backstory to the items used in vacuforming details on the C-3PO trunk? These lines beneath the rectangles are actual found items that ended up in the Falcon among other places. I've been trying to ID them and this might be an avenue..

thanks!

Have you joined the 3po builders group? I’m curious if they know, or if this is still a mystery

Good question. I have some Threepio knowledge due things in my collection but no idea about these.

I think Halliwax has a decent suggestion although it seems a lot of stuff posted in that Facebook group is related to animatronics and 3D printing. Maybe some old timers like me still around to answer.

Also, you should make a list to the Props of the Original Trilogy Facebook group. Lots of knowledge there on all things SW as you probably know.

Absolutely, thank you guys! Will do.

This is a tough question as it doesn't involve the materials, or choices people have to make when building one for themselves. Generally these are sculpted or cast and who would even question it, ya know

I suppose this is really a historical question. I need to find some old timers like you said!

What this does, for me, is it changes the possible source of parts. ESB used a lot of factory parts, plastics, etc that might have been bought in bulk, some american military items, lots more industrial parts and switches. A lot of the aircraft scrap in ESB.. I think is leftover from ANH, as are the michell turntable parts, certain costumes, casts of rented firearms, etc. For example I've been trying to see if the DV6 control box is seen in ESB or ANH as opposed to just Jedi, to try and find the right avenue.

These things on 3PO have always been an ESB mystery to me and here they are existing in '76...

This doesn't answer your question about the back details, but the oddly-placed metal "nipple" on one side of the chest is a component from the Michell/Transcriptors hydraulic turntable.

You’re not kidding, I for the life of me can’t find someone who makes brass eyes, but I see them everywhere…

Been looking for brass eye kit for a long time

Yeah I could use a proper set as well.

I'll be honest, I was out of the hobby for over a decade to raise my kids and really miss the RPF days of old. The FB groups thing is ok but I feel for our hobby, these types of boards are just so much better for information. Maybe I'm just old...."GET OFF MY LAWN!"

Oh trust me, I am anti Facebook as one can get. It’s just unfortunate a lot of people have left the forum plateform for that

I have no idea how the heck to work it.. searching is a nightmare.. and that’s why you see the same questions asked over and over and some times multiple times a day lol

Therpf is my home, which I’ll never leave even if I’m the last one

100% right there with you man. It's such a better experience.....I came back expecting all this activity and was surprised at the drop off. I didn't really realize FB had taken over till I was lamenting to a friend and he told me. Anyway, glad I'm in good company and sorry for the thread derailing :)

They remind me of hold down clamps

Something adjustable because of the slots? They also remind me of the parts on the bottom of the Vader reveal necklace, do we know what those are?
I dont know Halliwax, think I'm the last person on earth to never have had a FB account, lol.

Let me tell you… with all the “adult” ads they are pushing right now.. I’m ready to leave and never go back.. so over that platform

I guess I can say... this is the profile of a specific latching switch. I don't know if they just used the plates or lined up the switches themselves for this, but I'd recognize that shape anywhere lol

Were the same things used on the ANH suit? I haven't checked, just asking since there were some major (hands/feet) and minor changes between the ANH and ESB/ROTJ suits.

Facebook is more accessible to a new builder, and a much easier place to have a conversation in more-or-less real time. Discord is similar, though of course Discord is moderated and harder to just access. So both those platforms are arguably better places to ask a question because people will see it faster and feel a degree of obligation to answer immediately - it's like being able to text *everyone* at once.

Add to that social media's general familiarity to younger people and we have, in my opinion, a very understandable reason why these groups have become dominant over forums like this one or Astromech.

However, and speaking as a library professional, they are much, much, much worse places to store knowledge. However, because our hobby almost never bothers to really organise and store knowledge, instead handling things in an ad-hoc manner, that disadvantage isn't enough to push people back to the forums.

Anyway, just felt like opining on the "young 'uns." (And I suspect at just under 50 I'm on the younger half here. :D ) Sorry for the sidebar!
