Bumblebee from scrap ( literally hehe)

after seeing Izabel's post about her/don robert's bee, i decided to share my take on bumblebee, he is made from common household items, discarded cardboard boxes, some used illustration boards, old cardboard calendars, empty plastic water bottles and caps, used plastic cups and covers, broken toys, a pair of old crocs taped to small plastic stools, old bike shin guards, a pair of flashlights from a dollar store, plastic bendable straws, laminated paper plates, some plastic coffee stirrers,an old leather belt, some bike reflectors, bits and pieces (junk) found in the storeroom/attic, some velcro tape, loads of duct tape, tons of hot glue and leftover canned spray paints. its something i did to pass the time away and as a favor to a godchild who wanted bumblebee to appear at his 7th birthday. this is probably the most cheap-ass costume on this forum thus far harhar hope it doesn't offend anyone, thanks for looking.

I think that's awesome. :thumbsup Very nice. Any progress pics of how you built and where everything went? Pretty darn impressive. :cool

thanks, unfortunately there are no work-in-progress pics, since i only learned of forums like this ( which is absolutely great)after i had finished the costume, but closer inspection of the photos can give one a general idea of what parts were used where, but i am seriously considering re-making this "bee" with the proper costuming materials, it was a hit among the kids ( and a lot of the adults as well hehe) at the party, so i thought that it would be cool to make another that can be worn more than a couple of times. and who knows maybe other costumes as well, it was such a stress buster making it and a lot of fun wearing it when kids stare at you with jaws open.

but here are some photos of when the costume was still incomplete hope it gives a better idea of how it was made

Good job on this one, love the creative ingenuity!

Re: "Bee" from scrap ( literally hehe)

thanks! hopefully when i get around to re-making this it will turn out 100% percent better, using better materials and making a cleaner build ( will definitely post in-progress pics), will take time to ensure quality, (made this one in a couple of weeks after office hours, about 2 to 4 hours a night), thinking of making it bigger/taller without compromising movement/mobility.

I think it is great! I'd be excited to see it, and I'm way older than 7. My wife tells me that I'm at least 8! ;)

I love this - and I love the fact that you built it from scraps... it looks incredible.
A fine job you did, sir.

Re: "Bee" from scrap ( literally hehe)

that is really brilliant! you should be proud of making something so good from what you had

Re: "Bee" from scrap ( literally hehe)

I love seeing "fun" costumes as well as "perfect" ones on here!
And that is fun!

Re: "Bee" from scrap ( literally hehe)

wow, that is a great job. I'm sure if you do try to make a more permanent suit, it will look amazing!

thanks, have started to look for the correct/more appropriate costuming materials, but can only do it on my spare time so it might take some time to finish. but will post w.i.p. pics when i do start building it, already have something in mind as to the size and scale, will be bigger than this "scrap" version and more to scale, will definitely be more detailed

"offend anyone?!"

DUDE THAT ROCKS!

brad

dude, visited a forum once ( not related to costuming) that were elitist snobs, unless you have the"correct" equipment ( they had their own standard for "correct" equipment and their "correct" way of doing things) , you were not welcome. guess they got offended by people who did not have the "correct" things. go figure
