Building a SS TIE cockpit ball

Hey guys, I want to show you of my scratchbuilt TIE Fighter cockpit ball. I plan to cast it and maybe build a regular TIE Fighter, an Interceptor and why not the X1, that's why it's built like a kit.

I would like to thank Beaz for all the kitpart he found on this one... and for the parts he sent me to do castings ! Lee, John C, Steve Neisen and Boba Flint for their precious help... Thank you so much guys, it's been a hard way for me to build this one... My first full scratchbuilt/kitbashed ANH model !

Ive started it in April, 2009 and it's not finished yet...

Stunning work J, details look crisp and precise!. How you find the time to build treasures like this is beyond me dude, but I'm sure glad you do, your'e a true inspiration my friend!.

Looks great! I sure do love the TIE fighter series.... I do believe there is nothing you cannot build.... simply stunning.

The no shrink 60 parts will go out this week.

I still cant describe how immaculate Juliens work is, I was lucky enough to see this when I was over in Paris & It really is an incredible piece of work. The techniques used to construct this build are remarkable, it really is flawless.

Thanks you for your kinds words guys !

Stu, it's been a long time Im working on this one :)

Im glad you liked it Guy !

Thanks for the parts Steve ! And without the help I had on this one, I would never been able to build it by myself ! No part ID, no model ! :)

Had a lot of fun working together on part ids for this Julien.

Your work on this model is incredible, and I've enjoyed watching you build this from scratch as much as anything else this year.

TOP NOTCH WORK!!!

It's already alot of work building kits, I can't imagine doing everything from scratch, I would never have the patience or less the ability.
The tie has always been my favorite ship with the Slave I a close second.

Fantastic work Julien! Absolutely inspiring. You should work for a studio.

May I ask how you plan on doing the wings/solar panels? I've heard a lot about Koolshade, plus the recent discovery that the vintage material was supposedly more accurate than what is available now, and is now almost impossible to find, not to mention structural issues (wing bending over time).

I have an unbuilt older Niesen TIE myself and I'd be interested in your opinions on the wings and Koolshade. Of course, I also value other members' opinions on this as well.

Again great job, and acknowledgment also to the talents of Beaz, SWPropmaker, and the other TIE authorities around here.

For me, the best option, would be a mix of OE parts, and perfect castings, layed onto a laser cut acrylic star, thats how id go at it anyhoo, and yes, the current line of Koolshade, is a mile from what ILM used, and that is indeed now OOP and very hard to come by.
Though Steve's new stars are reputed to be a massive leap on the older Hero variant's, i cant see a Hero star, tweaking as much as a solid resin one TBH....you get the chance to iron out all the kinks in the build a lot easier i would have thought compared to a full resin wing?
