Building a Portal Turret (Work in Progress)

same. i have a small corner in my room. my biggest problem is lack of materials. i can't find anything out here. took me two weeks of web and searching on foot just to locate fiberglass and resin. and some more time to locate something like bondo. my first attempt at making a mask failed miserably as the resin did not cure and there were no instructions. oh well. learn through mistakes. gonna try again later, lets see how it goes. meanwhile amazing build my friend. looking forward to more progress.

Yes, its very hard to find all the materials you need, its even harder in a country like germany, where all the materials have different names than in US.

I just found a store in germany last month, wich sells ALL the things wich are necesarry for moldmaking and casting, after I knew what molding silicone and casting resin is called in german.

And I found a german Polystyrene shop, wich even lasercuts them, too.
Polystyrene for example is called "Polystyrol" in german, wasn´t that hard to find in contrast to molding silicone and casting resin.


But now I know all about the materials I need, how their named, where to buy and how to use

Thats the first thing i built, when i was 15.
I didn´t had ANY knowledge about prop making.
And I started with NOTHING, I don´t even had an exacto knife or a glue gun.

I used Polyester Resin and normal cheap woodfiller to get it smooth

The second thing I built was better:

Thats what you get, when you have above-average intelligence.
You have allot of time to read articles/watch videos to increase your skills in Propmaking (I also learned 3D modelling and Leveldesign),
because you don´t wasting your time on partys or another ***** the stupid kids in my age do.

Also you don´t wasting your money on alcohol or cigarettes, so you have money for materials

I built in a wire inside the leg for the Lamp wich light up the turrets eye

1. Carve a seam

2. Glue in the wire (hot glue)

3. Stuff the seam

4. Seal it with Filler and Sand

Thanks. I hope to finish the Turret this month.
When you make your own, it will be a HUUUUUUUGEEE pain in the ass to do the legs.
I mean who the ***** designed this that way?!


My next Projekt after this is to make Portal Radio, I already got the exact perfect plan in my mind how I will build it.
There will be speakers inside it, so you can plug your phone or mp3 player in and hear your music louder.

But I will be in a paradoxon with the Portal Radio project.
For building the Radio I need a scroll saw, but i can only buy a scroll saw from the money I will charge trough selling some finished Portal Radios.
And I can only charge money when I already built it, but for building I need a scroll saw.
But for buying a scroll saw I need to charge money...... and so on... and so on....

I hope you understand what i mean, so I have to use a damn coping saw -.-



I also think about building another Turret, wich is moldable.
So I can make like 5 or 10 of them.
