Looks great Steve, brilliant save from a damaged kit.

Awesome repair and all-around build! Reminds me how disappointed I am that Disney World did away with the 20,000 Leagues ride...

Thanks a whole bunch guys!

Disney is clueless. So is the public when it comes to this movie and ship. I miss the exhibit too. I never go to Disneyland anymore and I'm an hour away. It's just...Boring!

You're right about that! Disney is clueless. I was never into this sub before, but now I'm looking at it in a different light. Your build is just stunning! The repair job alone is simply amazing!

I think she's as Iconic as the Enterprise. although not true to Verne's novel it was a brilliant design and one that would have worked and actually does.

Thanks so much for the kind words!

I love the ship and share your feeling. I remember seeing this movie for the first time as a kid and I think more than any other aspect of the movie, even then, I was fascinated by the Nautilus. I suppose I was an engineer in the making even then. As always, looking forward to any new updates.

The mark of true craftsmen.

Reminds me of when I was in the Navy. I had orders to board the Forrestal and took a bus to Norfolk. I had recently bought a Fender 12 string guitar. After I got off the bus in Norfolk and picked up my baggage I found the guitar case appeared damaged. When I opened it up the face of the guitar was crushed, and so was I. Evidently they opened it up because my orders I laid on top of the guitar were gone. I met someone on ship who asked what I was going to do with it. Well, I told him he could have it as I couldn't do anything with it. Later on he showed me it after repairing it and you couldn't tell it was ever damaged. It takes a real craftsman to return something that seems beyond repair and make it the same as new. I wish I had that kind of skill

Amazing save on an awesome kit!

This thing is 1/32nd scale, as I remember?
I try to limit all my model work to 1/32nd-1/35th scale.
(I mostly build WWII aircraft.)

I'd love to build one, but the price, (when they come available)
is too high for a stash kit I'll likely never get to.

Glad somebody is building 'em, and beautifully, too.

Mike

You might like this too. All scratch built. Not RC like this one but then again there's no chance of it being lost at the local lake either! LOL!!

Welcome to the forum Mike.

Thanks for the welcome, Steve.
Been here since 2006, mostly Firefly/Serenity prop stuff.

I have just been out of the model building for awhile.
I reached the point where it just seemed like so-much-WORK to make any progress.
But I'm starting to get the modeler's itch again.
Mostly WWII, but I've built some SF, like the Buck Rogers fighter with a custom back seat.

Fantastic restoration!

Thought this might be of interest you and other 20,000 League fans. A few years back, I was on the bill at NYC's Nerd Nite Nerdtacular with another lecturer who had done a presentation on the history of the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Ride at Disney (mine was on Godzilla biology). That night's lectures were encore performances, and for his encore, Dave actually Skype interviewed one of the original "captains" from the ride. The lecture can be viewed here:

'Nerd Nite' 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Ride Lecture (2010 encore) on Vimeo

He also had a website dedicated to the ride:

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - The Ride

P.S. The story is a little heartbreaking at times... :(

You hit my soft spot WW2 is my thing and I scratch built a rather large TA-183 awhile back that was radio controlled. Love your work it's the way it's supposed to be!

Love your 20000 leagues stuff too. Thanks for posting and yes I did go on that ride and the exhibit the year it closed. But don't worry you'll have Will Smith as Nemo soon and a Nautilus that looks, well, about as good as Abram's Enterprise if not far worse. LOL!

Disney doesn't have a clue.

Thanks again guys.
