Budget Star Wars Garden Ornaments.

Found a cheap kids Vader mask in a charity shop for a few pence and decided to make a wall hanger for the garden.

Made a quick and dirty mold of the remaining tusk ie pushed some plastacine on it, and cast it with a big blob of epoxy glue. Glued it in place and shot a coat of red lens tint up the inside of the lenses.

Masked off the lenses, nose and tusks and covered in gloss laquer. Tipped a pile of iron powder over it and let it set.

Sprayed it down with a water, vinegar salt mix and let it go in a plastic bag over night.

Glued in some aluminium mesh to the grills and touched the nose and tusks up with some chrome.

Quite pleased with how it turned out, cost probably less than £3 and was less than a couple of hours graft.
Just have to figure out were to put it. Might also look at putting a small solar light in it to glow the eyes at night.

I kept myself busy while everyone slept off their christmas dinners.

I picked up a load of the Star Wars resin garden ornaments when our local Homebase store closed down. I got these for a few quid each.

Inspired by YT video by Buckethead props I decided to make them a bit snappier.

I used Plastikote copper metallic, it surprised the hell out of me how nice that came out. I'm going to weather him with a bit copper patina and black wash the base. I want him to look like a mini statue on a stone plinth.

Did BB8 next. I want to make him look like an old broken down unit. So far I've given him a silver base.

I'm going to give him a chipped white finish with a good amount of rust, same technique as the Vader mask above.

These are very nice, too bad shipping to my country might be as much as the statues themselves. I'd like an R2 and a Stormie. :(

I missed out on the R2. They are really nice too. A guy was going to send me one on the RPF facebook page, but the previous lot he sent to people got totally destroyed in the mail (the pics were heartbreaking) and he didnt want the grief again. Totally understandable, but nice of him to reach out and try.

Did a quick paint job on the trooper. Finished him with a gloss coat. He will be just left to weather naturally in the garden.

BB8 got a quick and dirty paint job and is now rusting away in a bag in the shed.

Done nothing further with Yoda yet, and still not sure what to do with Fett.

Yoda is finished. I gave him a black wash followed with a patina wash. The patina really makes him pop.

And BB8 is rusted.

I've mixed up a batch of yoghurt and moss to paint round the bases to grow some moss on there to finish them off.

I still dont know what I'm doing with the Fett one.

Now I got these to deal with too!!

They are a decent size, lifesize(ish). Think I'll paint them up at some point. Just got to think of what on earth to plant in them?!
I'm considering a cordyline in the Fett, the colour and shape would give him a punk look.
The other 2, not too sure yet.

The moss growing plan doesnt seem to have workes on the figures, I suspect the idiot dog has licked the paste off.

And I still havent decided what to do with the other Fett figure.

Thats the Vader one done. Quick an dirty, will do for the garden. Had to use alclad chrome for the graphite parts. Nithing else I had would show up for some reaon. I suspect it will sit down a bit when I clear coat it.

Ready to receive vegetation.
A friend suggested they look like big egg cups, so the trooper is going to get some runny yolk down his side, with white plants and yellow in the centre.

Nice paint jobs there. I have an R2 and a stormtrooper but I won't be going to that effort! I'm just leaving them outside to get a nice patina... so far all they have is cobwebs and leaves :D

Hadn't checked back into this thread in awhile, but man, those resin figured turned out great. Poor BB8, he look terrible, in such a good way. The paint job on the stormtrooper is amazing, and the bronze patina on Yoda turned out great.

For the Fett, I'd give him a similar treatment to BB8, like he just crawled out of the belly of the Sarlacc.

Cheers. The problem with the Fett is that he is like a big action figure, so painting him with any degree of accuracy becomes too much of a job. And I'm lazy
The patina on Yoda is actually getting better, must be a high metallic content in that paint, he should end up really nice eventually.

This guy is now done.
