I have a coworker who wants to be a Predator for Halloween.

Because the Predator is a hunter, and also because she is of African decent, I chose to base the concept on the Maasai tribe, mainly the lion hunters and warriors.

This photo is from a Time magazing article about a Maasai cricket team [linky]

Here is the initial concept sketch.

The Bio mask is pepakura and bondo. The armor is foamies (Vinman shoulder templates). The foam armor is glued on to a sports bra for a base. The dreads are plasti-dipped backer rod attached to a baseball hat with the bill removed.

Thanks, I think the Maasai tribe's style is fantastic. I highly recommend a google image search [linky].

I am pleased with how it is turning out.
My biggest mistake so far was that I used WAY too much creme hardener in my bondo. That stinking mask was practically unsandable. It is so tough and hard that it will likely outlast humanity.

hahaha XD guess thats a good thing for durability then, no need to worry about it. My favorite bits on the sketch have to be the beads, collar and loincloth. Cant wait to see this finished ^^

Actually..the Predator was designed for the movies based off the Masai stance. Robert Short ( academy award winner for Beetlejuice) was given the task of creating a new alien after the Van Damme suit for "Hunter" failed. After his designs were turned into McTiernan, the project went to Stan. Robert is a really cool guy told me all kinds of great stories about the early days of Predator. you can read more about it ..and see his early designs based on the Masai here:

scroll down a bit.

I guess the circle is complete, from Maasai to Predator and back again.
