Budget Build Star Trek TOS Data Pad (Original IPAD)

Had some scrap wood laying around... and figured I could spend an hour making up a quick data pad prop. Got a cheapo toy from the dollar store that had some blinking and static lights, a package of bulbous colored plastic end caps for a bicycle tire air tube for the light covers(dollar store), black spray paint (dollar store) - and an endcap from a insulin needle to use as the power push button. A silver painted tent stake for the stylus. A quick printed graphic... and voila... a TOS Data Pad with a total materials cost of about $4.

Thanks for the comments. As far as the "dollar stores" - I find they are one of the greatest places in the world to get "greeblies" and guts for budget builds. You can pull a cheapo toy apart and get a wealth of led's - and then the parts of the toy itself can be piecemealed out to various prop builds. Not to mention - common everyday household items - with a little paint and a few add-ons - can make a pretty decent item. And everything for just a buck... Dollar stores are the greatest invention since the lightsaber bread slicer.

I have always been on the lookout for anything that can be made into a TOS prop. Wonderful work!

That last pic is straight on enough and also pretty large. Wouldn't take much in Photoshop to straighten it up and make it useable, or at least a base for recreation

Nice-looking prop. Honestly, I saw "IPAD" in the title and thought somebody made an Apple iPad shell in the style of a TOS tablet. Now I'm wanting to re-think my plans for an iPad shell, desktop viewer versus tablet....or both!
