Buck Rogers helmet

Hello everyone.

I started this WIP over at the Prop Den and thought it would be cool to finally post something here on the RPF.

As a kid in the 70's I was a big fan of Star Wars of course. Pretty much everything sci-fi. I was also a big fan of Buck Rogers. Well...I love the Starfighter helmets but thought it would be neat to find one of the lesser known and sought after helmets from the show.

Here it is.

After doing some research...here is what i found.

The helmets in great shape..little clean up and paint and she's good to go. More to follow.

Here are a couple of pics after it was taken apart and cleaned. I deglossed the plastic and started painting the visors and the parts of the helmet that they cover.

Thanks guys. In reality these are firefighter helmets based on a Bell shorty motorcycle helmet. I knew that they used modded Bell helmets for the show...so my guess was that with such an obscure prop it was most likely a found item just painted up to suit there purposes.

My guess turned out pretty good.:love

Ok...one more update for today. I started to put it back together and began the finish painting. Now I got to keep my mitts off it and let it dry.

Well...here it is all back together. Lot of fun and not very time consuming. Hope you like it.

Cool. Like many of the props on Buck Rogers, that one probably started life as a Colonial Military Security (NOT private security) helmet on Battlestar Galactica. I think the only time they're seen is in "Baltar's Escape" when the military security forces are getting ready to storm the landing bay. If you paste a small Galactica patch on the forehead, it'd be an exact match.

Lots of props moving back and forth between those shows...
