BTTF kits coming out

Aoshima does them again! Those magnificent jerks.

On HLJ they show photos of some of the etched parts, and it appears the time circuits and license plates are all prepainted, as well as a sheet for the exhaust vents at the back.

Nice to see the Part 3 kit combined into one version... but I am wondering what happened to the "Drivers." Maybe it was just for Universal Studios Japan, but the kits once came with 1/24 characters to go with their vehicles. The Marty that comes with the Part I version has some questionable proportions, but I'm still a sucker for those versions.

All of these kits can be built with a mechanism to fold the wheels under and a clear display stand to go with for flying mode. Great kits! So great, that I now have older versions to unload because I have so many.

HLJ has them for $33.41 ($36 for part III). (Not sure of the shipping, but they're usually not too bad.)

Glad to see they didn't include etch for one of the parts that I'd been planning on doing if/when these kits were re-released. Still a bit of an opportunity to do some work for them.

I haven't done a car kit in years, so is 1/24 a more popular scale? I would have preferred 1/18 to go with my diecast American Graffiti cars.

That's not bad considering i paid around 20.00 each for my diecast ones here. 1/24 and 1/25 are the standard scale for plastic kits. Seems like 1:18 is the standard for diecast.

It costs about $10-$15 to ship a kit through HLJ. So that's about $45-$50 shipped to your door. Considering the complex mechanism for flying mode and the photoetch already included its a very fair price in today's market. Most aftermarket photoetch upgrade sets often cost as much as the kit.

AMT borrowed the molds too so if you only want the Part II version they can be had for about $20-$25.

Paul,

You could still do a full set - none of those interior parts look like they can be back lit to me, and there are probably a lot of the older releases out there. I believe I have two myself... You weren't thinking about doing the wrap-around body grills by any chance, were you? :thumbsup
