BTTF II Pepsi Perfect Project

Exactly, but then why would it need to be hollow?

Well i think the diet pepsi and the slice one got the hollow anyway ^^
as you can see them opened, for the pepsi perfect, he can try to create some sort of a brown look, like one of my pepsi bottle, it's made out of resin but it's still pretty cool ^^

Anyone have any good suggestions on how to make the vacuformed versions of this prop? Obviously two halves, but how to attach the halves is whats concerning me.

I saw a video on youtube that showed how to attach the two halves...they used a really thin line of Loctite I believe.

I believe the original ones were simply glued together at the seams, you could use either a super glue or some kind of contact adhesive. As long as the edges are sanded smooth it should look good and also screen accurate.

Dan.

I think I want to make the blue part of the pepsi perfect bottle out of printed plastic and vacuform the bottom halves of the bottle to have a complete replica.

The original bottles were just a front and back half glue together. The Diet Pepsi I had which was broken looked like it was put together with Super Glue since the joint was so evenly broken. I'd wager the Pepsi Perfect was assembled the same way.

For my replicas I used a plastruct solvent glue for the white styrene bottles and a specialty solvent glue for my clear Pepsi Perfects. After getting the bottle halves trimmed and sanded flat (like a vac formed model kit). I put some glue on a piece of glass sat each bottle half on the glass to get the glue wicked on the edge and then put the two pieces together. If needed I'd tape the bottle halves together till the glue set.

From there it was just a matter of sanding/bondo-ing the seams till they were smooth and doing the final paint. On the Pepsi Perfect you don't mess with the side seams on the clear areas except to spot seal any small leaks on the sides. You can sand and seal the tops if you want, but the original bottle I had did not bother too much. I spot sealed the sides with Superglue and an accellerant to minimize any frosting.

Thanks for the input Gary, The Slice and Diet Pepsi bottle I will just use my 3d printed model since they are solid. The clear bottles I will be vacuforming and gluing together.

Gary, do you have any reference pictures for how the flip up straw operates? I am pretty confident that I would be able to recreate it.

I'll look at my files to see if I took any pics and will get them posted around lunch time today. The original "straws" were cast resin and the support frames were three pieces of 1/8" plastic (styrene most likely). The pivot was a piece of 1/16" dia. brass rod. The drilled into the bottle after they were put together and then superglued the hole on the outside and sanded it down so you wouldn't see it after painting.

Just checked my pics that I have here at the office and don't have anything usefull of the straw setup, but I know I took some pics. I must have them at home and will try to look tonight for those.

I think it's a safe guess that Pepsi will make these in 2015. It would be a stupid idea not to. Almost there.

That's my guess, too. And in case they wouldn't come to the idea themselves, maybe one of us should give them a hint. :D

Given Pepsi own Pizza Hutt, they should also release a 15" half peperoni, half green pepper as well.

Pepsi owns Pizza Hut? This is news to me. If they do deal with Pizza Hut, I hope they don't make it so you have to order a certain combo or something to get a Pepsi Perfect. It's not that big of a problem, but it's inconvenient. I also wish that they don't release the Pepsi Perfect as late as October like in the movie. And what has be scratching my head is that in the movie it is very close to Halloween, but there is not even one decoration. Is Halloween abolished in the BTTF universe by 2015?

Not only by 2015, but also by 1985. Remember: it's October 26 1985 when Marty is coming back from the 50s. Did you see any Halloween decoration in Hill Valley 1985? ;)

I've actually sent them a couple of unsolicited emails asking for this in the past. No replies. Every once and awhile I will tweet them this Pepsi bottle render I made a couple years ago.

I assume they will do something. After the Mag's made national headlines and the Mattel hoverboard at least getting some press from major news outlets, if someone at pepsi isn't at least thinking of doing the bottles I would be very surprised.

And yes, PepsiCo owns Pizza Hut. Along with half a dozen other things. Hopefully their reach will do something big for BTTF. Maybe pizza hut will sell cookies in those bags?

I only wonder if there are FDA regulations that will interfere with SA or anything like that. For instance, the Pepsi Perfect bottle doesn't have any nutritional information on the back like the Diet and Slice do. That might be mandatory.

They could add a transparent and easy removable sticker with nutritional informations below the logo sticker on the lower half of the bottle.
