BTTF Futaba Delorean Remote Project

Have you read this thread? For an accurate remote those are not correct. This thread is currently dedicated to producing accurate parts and electronics to mimic the movie remotes functions.
 
Don't invent the wheel. My advise is to read the thread. It seams like you are missing important information regarding the displays.
 
Wow it was just a simple question. This thread started of as someone's build not a thread to make the most accurate parts and electronics to mimic the movie remote funtions. Not everyone has the money/skills to build parts from scratch. So I would suggest when someone asks a simple question maybe you can be a little nicer and just let them know if they are going for the most accurate that the part in question will not work but if you don't mind it being a little off that I could work. Im not trying "invent" or reinvent the wheel, as the saying goes, it was just a simple question.

If you just want something that is similar to the original, then almost any display will work. Same thing goes for the remote. Just get a remote and some random display, a random project box and glue it to the back and you are done. That can probably be done for less than $50,-

I wasn't being rude, I simply told you to read the thread so that you could get a better understanding of what is invested into this project. But you are free to do what you want and if money is an issue, go with a solution you are happy with. Not everyone wants super accuracy and that is fine.
 
I wasn't being rude either. Asked if you read the thread so you knew what we were doing. I also said what the thread was "currently" dedicated to, not the whole thread from the beginning. You didn't specify that you were trying to make something "close". As I said this thread is currently about making an accurate one so my answer of those are not correct was also in line :)

As said by oneminde, anything will work but what has been used in the past are grey faced .8" displays.
 
I was dreading this moment. I can't hit 88 mph. Who is BTTF fan enough to take over ?
The work is more or less done. Meaning you will take over my work and that work means to produce the parts. If you are willing to follow in the spirits of my work, let me know.
 
Could be construed as bragging, I suppose. They are also shown in one of my posts in the Classified section. A month ago I was searching eBay for something else (the subject of that Classified post), and happened upon these which were identifiable only by examining the photos. They were part of a lot identified by the seller as "LED" and "LCD" displays (there were no actual LCD displays in the lot, only these, one LED, and one neon which was DOA). The seller did not mention the brand name and model at all. They are Stanley model S-5000K. Other than the suffix letter, the only differences between this model and the S-5000B that was used in BTTF are the red lenses instead of clear, and less powerful bulbs -- 20 mA instead of 60 mA.

BTW, thanks for identifying the model number in your socket reverse-engineering drawing. The only other place online that I've seen the model number given is in the Facebook post, which I was only able to find after I got the number from your post. For some unknown reason, Google never turned up the Facebook post in any of my searches until I used the model number as one of the keywords. Kind of useless if the main piece of info you're missing IS the model number!

Anyway, if something should go wrong with your/Fluxcapacitor's project, that's no longer "the only game in town", and I could pick up where you/he leave off if needed. Unless, of course, I pass these on to someone else first.

Kewl info. FYI, I managed to get Stanley Electronics to communicate with me and behold, they do not recognise this display / model. It is that rare. It is one of their first model and maybe they did not produce that many of them. Stanley started their LED display research in 1968 and so I think this is one of their first. Incandescent displays as these are were not produced that long before the LED type entered the market, so, they are very rare.

I will in the future get back to making these displays in ABS plastic, its just that it will not happen this year. So, mister Fluxcapacitor will make these and probably as resin cast. He ofc need to figure out how to do things etc since I only provide 3D models, drawings, pcb schematic, parts list and so forth. I am sure you and he can communicate about details as well.
 
Awesome find scotophor! I had been teing to find originals under different search's with no luck. If you wanna join in on the project let me know, if you go your own way then let us know how you do.

Once I have displays made I will push forward with my original side of the project which was remote functionality. I already have it where it would be acceptable but I wanna see how much more I can add to it. For instance I am going to have a 88 trigger output to do whatever someone may want. Like hook that output up to a remote to turn on something in the car. I also want to get some sound incorporated into it, at minimum the brake switch sounds.
 
I'm going to try to make a close enough version, with oneminde' s help to use temporarily, but I'm still interested someday getting an accurate part. Thanks, oneminde!
 
I got my Molex in the mail today. Got them from Sciplus! Thats for the tip left by Oneminde in this topic. :D I didn't realize when I bought them that it was only 3 dollars for 3. I thought I was just getting one. I'm already giving an extra to another fan. :D That was a bargin!
 
Hey Guys,
I wanted to post a thank you for helping me create my BTTF remote. This forum has been an amazing resource for finding the parts to build my version.
I took a few liberties with the parts since it is a little tough to find the exact Futaba remote. Even with the few minor differences my friends and family are still just as excited to play with it. :)
To get it working I used a arduino UNO and a 5 button birthday card sound module. I created the Boot up and Counter SFX from Scratch. Enjoy!
