BSG - If you can't buy it, make it!

I wonder how hard it would be to mold and vacform the shells of the phone box and hand set?

I am pretty sure Moff man has already started working on it. I know he has the receiver prepped to to make a mold and he also does vaccuforming.

I work at an electronics manufacturing plant. I am checking to see how many we have.

No i wasn't working on that yet but i was looking it over today and thought about giving it a try. The body of the phone ( which is alot bigger then it looks) splits in half so it would be pretty easy to vacform. I could mold the button pad and cast them in medium hard rubber and the handset would be molded and cast in resin. Then you would need greebile , decals and a phone cord.
BUT!!!!Price is the draw back, even if you have to spend $75 for a TA 954 it would still be cheaper then all the vacuum forming and casting , and the real phone will always look better. So unless the TA 954's start selling for $250 each i would say vacform isn't really an option.

While we wait for heat sinks and decals i spent my free time today working on a new prop.

Made a nice silicone mold and a few resin castings of a TA-1 turned out very well, better then the one they auctioned off. I am working on a custom phone cradle now.

Oh and i made one of these today also,A cylon land mine. Think i should make a mold of this? Its alot bigger then it looks almost the size of a bottle of pop.

A "bottle of pop"?
I haven't heard that since I moved east from western PA and when I worked in Michigan!

Thanks for the pic. :)

I am going to start on the Viper Flight Manual tomorrow - I have I believe everything I need except the cream colored paper, which I'll get last.

Opinion time: the auction says the book is 8.5" x 11." So do you think they mean the book itself to include the plexi - which makes the pages a little smaller than that? Or are the pages 8.5" x 11" and the plexi a little larger...

Also, does the book look 2.5 inches thick to you? That would be a whole ream of paper...

Lastly, is there a guide as to how the BSG corners are to be cut? :confused

Thanks,
Sean

It looks to me like the pages are 8.5" x 11".

A guide? Other than 45 degrees? I don't think so. Try printing out the first page graphic on some scrap paper, try a few cuts and see what you like.

Looking forward to this one! Or you could spend over $1100 in the current ebay auction to get the original prop :)

Do you really think that all 2 1/2 inches of pages were printed? Thats like 500 pages!!! 1000 if you print both sides. If you are going to do a run of these the ink prices will kill you. What do we all think ?

The way I am making this, it's going to be a static prop. And if I remember correctly, a static prop does not do anything. Therefor this book won't do anything, which means it won't open... Ergo, the inside pages will be blank. How's that?

I think that is just peachy:thumbsup

I've measured, remeasured, aligned and realigned the text and image.

I've cut and sanded the plexi.

I've applied the faux black leather.

I've discovered I am not a patient guy... Okay, I've already known that. :lol

I'm off to get the paper and hope by buddy still has a massive paper cutter.

What fun!

The correct color paper will be cut Thursday and I will be adjusting the text and image a bit more...
