BSG Door for my CIC Man Cave

I am starting out slow on this...

Since I am going to order the safety glass today, I have started the preliminary designing of my CIC door. No, it's not a scale representation of the actual door - I have to work off the standard door size due to the framework already being in place. But I don't think that will be a real issue once I finish it.

No, the door won't be brown - the color scheme is just for my benefit. ;-)

Unfortunately, since I have no experience vacu-forming, or really any wood working skills, I will not have all the shapes down as seen in the real door. So, if anyone has any tips, please post them.

That`s an excellent idea & looks pretty sweet by the concept art. So you adding the BSG door furniture too & handle?

The areas outside the door could either be painted or be customized to reinforce the shape of the triangle. Only the rectangular part need open.

You: "Honey, I'm going to be CIC."

Her: "You mean you're going to be downstairs in your man-cave and to page you over the intercom if I need you?"

Are you really going to go with the solid door design with the glass panes (as you've drawn) or are you going to actually construct a door that functions like the one in the show (with the handle and wheel that bolts the door)? I'm just curious about that (though I know the latter would be difficult to fabricate, I think it'd be a great thing to have for something that is accurate to the show).

Don't do it Sean, just make a smaller version of the door to the left. I know you can do it. OR get a sledge and make your opening bigger.

Anyone have any ideas about obtaining a "steering wheel" similar to the one on the door? And maybe the side door grip?

For the wheel you could proboly just use solid metal tubing and form it yourself, wouldent it be cool if they had a "pick and pull" for old submarine parts!

If you had the wheel, would you make it functional? Ie. control a bar/lock mechanism on the inside of the door? That would be pretty neat! (I've seen something similar with a slide, the idea would still apply.)

It depends on what kind of affordable wheel set I am able to find...
