HereÂ’s my review on the BSG Base Star detail set I picked up a few weeks ago. Hope this helps some of you "on the fence".

Timeslip Creations Base Star Detail Set Review

This detail set is for the Revell/Monogram Cylon Base Star. It consists of replacement parts for 20 of the kits original parts with better detailing and 20 all new detail parts for the midline area.

IÂ’ll let some pictures take up most of my review, as they just about say it all.

Looks at underside of the landing bay bridges, big difference.:

All parts are well cast in a white pretty odorless resin and bagged nicely as shown. No bubbles were found in my set. I am very happy with how the kit replacement parts are a great improvement on the existing kit landing bay bridges and covers on the very noticeable “outside” top and bottom of the base star, setting a kit with this detail set apart from a stock build quite noticeably. Add in the new mid line beltline trench details, and it really helps “make” this kit, as that area is pretty Plain Jane without some form of detailing to spice it up a bit.

Part fit is 100% with dry fitting to date; the beltline wedges fit in place with very little effort and are engineered to have the proper notches needed to slide over the existing kit detail. No modifications of the existing kit disk is needed to use this kit, all parts are either replacements for kit parts or fit so well that you should have no problems getting everything to go together.

My build plan is to build up the kits disks separately, add the midline wedge to each disk set respectively, and then paint each disk set. Once IÂ’m happy with paint on the disks, paint all the landing covers and bridges and the rest of the midline details, and add to the disks the bridge kit replacement parts. Once that is done, assemble the 2 disks, and the go back in and carefully add the remaining belt line details. IÂ’m adding the wedges early on as I want to get as much in there as possible as once the 2 disks are together it gets a bit tight, and by doing it that way the paint job will blend those parts even more into the kits existing details. The remaining beltline details IÂ’m waiting to add as they should be as centered as possible and with the luck I have by adding them early to one of the disks IÂ’d leave a gap when I put the 2 disks together, and they are not too hard to place with long enough tweezers.

All in all, a great detail set for the price, and if you have a Base Star, I’d call this a “must have” for it as it really helps the kit along. Available from Timeslip Creations for $35.00 plus shipping, at www.timeslipcreations.com
