Live Auction Dates and Location

September 3, 2008

The first Live Battlestar Galactica Auction will
take place January 16-18th, 2009 at the
Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California.
Friday, January 16th will be Preview Day,
and all the items in the auction will be on display,
including full size space sips like the
Viper, the BlackBird and even a Cylon Raider.
Saturday and Sunday, 800 lots iwll be auctioned
off in a live auction that will be webcast online.
If you can’t make it to Los Angeles,
you can bid online while watching
all the fun of the auction on your computer.
And if you don’t win one of the great
items up for auction that weekend, then on Monday,
we will have a 200 item online auction with less expensive,
but still very cool items up for bid.
Stay tuned to this web site for more details,
and put the weekend of January 16-18 on your schedule,
for the biggest collecting event of 2009!

I was wondering IF they were going to auction off the
full size ships, and it does sound like it !

:love

I know there's allot of Board Members out there in California
so I hope some guys will manage to make it there and snap
some pics for us East Coast folks...

I would give my... left arm?, no... my wife for a viper! (just kidding) Maybe.

Here is a really FULL ON geek question,
have any other shows really sold their
FULL SCALE stuff
like this ??

I know STAR TREK had lot's of full sized SHUTTLE PODS
but I don't think they every actually Auctioned them ?? :confused

I was writing some friends and we have been chatting
about what the heck would that MK.II and
MK.7 even go for ?

:love

I'm trying to convince the Air & Space Museum and the Marine Corps Aviatio Museum that they could use Vipers, here in San Diego.

Christies Star Trek auction had the nose section to one the NX shuttlepods. These BSG auctions will be interesting. The amount of material available will be limted, unlike the seemingly limitless amount of Star Trek stuff. Prices may go quite high.

So is anybody going? I think i'll go to the preview of everything, but not sure if i'll attend the actual auction, doubt i'll be able to afford anything!

Hey there. yes, I am the guy who is handling all this for Universal Studios. And yes, I am huge collector of Star Trek stuff, and have had to deal with the nonsense from IAW, so you can rest assured, there will be none of that with the BSG auctions. Now to answer a few questions....

Yes we will auction off some of the full size ships.

And yes, there will be stuff either in the live auctions, or the Internet auctions, that anyone will be able to afford.

Please visit www.battlestarprops.com for more info and a message board which we answer questions on daily.

Thanks for your support guys!

Cool. I've been wondering, though, what the "anyone can afford it" type items will be--are we talking anything major (like, say the jump key or the cubits), or will they all be stuff like a sheet of paper used in the background of episode #29, half-hidden by Gaeta's hand? ;)

Anyone who participates in prop & costume auctions realizes that hero, light-up props that are key pieces will go high. I have no control over that.

The two factors that determine price, for the most part, are DESIREABILITY and RARITY.

We, as collectors ourselves, are looking for things that will be reasonably priced and still cool. That means it is something that is not central to a story (because those will go higher) and which we have plenty of.

We have no control over market price, and since the FTL key is an extremely cool prop, it certainly will not go cheap.

Damn. I was that transparent, huh? :lol All the same, I am genuinely curious how you're planning to have pieces that "anyone can afford"--the implication here seems to be that you're doing it through the careful selection of not-very-desirable pieces. Or is there some other force at work here?

If an item is put into a "no reserve" auction, then it's selling price will be determined by the marketplace. There is no way to guarantee that any item "will go cheap" unless it is listed at a fixed price. With that being said, as it has already been pointed out prices will be influenced by the demand a particular item has within the collecting community. Supply is also another factor. BSG is not Star Trek. There will not be 15 Adama hero costumes.

Will there be a printed catalog to purchase for this auction (like the Star Trek Christies auction and the Profiles in History catalogs?

Sometimes it's just enough to see a well lit photo of a great prop (that's out of my price range) as it is to own screen used or replica.

I do hope you publish something.

Yes, we will have two, full color catalogs, that will be even cooler and better than Christie's Star Trek catalogs. Plus, there will be a two volume, hard bound and slip cased special edition that will be truly awesome.

Well being that its an "auction" that tells me right there that there won't be much that will affordable to "the average guy."

tooo many people with $$ to burn that will be going home with truck loads of stuff.

Take the cast and crew bathrobe that was recently up for auction. I was high bidder for 95% of the auction but at the end the price shot up to $500.00... and for a cast and crew gift bathrobe !!!

I would love to go, but for me it will be terribly fustrating to see the very small amount that *I THINK* I could afford, but with it all being an "auction" even the small stuff will be over priced. IMHO

No, the implication is that we know what we are doing, and actually care about people with small budgets and are working hard to find cool things that we have a bunch of that we know we can sell cheap. We have two items in particular, that we have a bunch of that we will sell in a format that allows everyone to get one at a reasonable price.

Found some more cool items that we have a bunch of this past week. The CIC set came down and is now no more. We got a LOT of stuff from that set. We really are feeling good about our ability to have something for every budget level. No, you won't get an FTL key cheap. But we do think that we will have a few items in the $ 2-300 range that people will be psyched to have.
