Edit - New pics in post 22 :)

Edit - Will a reward help? If you can identify where to get the cross guard, or where to get the actual sword at, hows 20$ sound? This is driving me batty!:wacko:wacko

This has been driving me nuts for the last few days. I could swear I have seen this sword somewhere, but I am having NO luck with matching it up. The closest seems to be the Cold Steel Italian sword, but the cross guard and blade shape are off.

Take a peek at the giant amount of hd screencaps here :

It looks like a repainted SLO but I haven't seen any online on ebay or the various sword shops that match up. The hilt has been distressed a bit :lol but the main "tell" for me would be this mark on the blade :

It looks to me like a "Made in china" or watermark (what do they call those things anyway?) has been polished off with a dremel felt wheel. I have done that to a few blades and it leaves that same square weird look to the blade.

So... sword guys, any ideas?

100 views and crickets....

Maybe this will help:

Any ideas? I have had zilch luck in finding a hand and a half or two handed sword that has that same cross guard. I know the hilt leather has been distressed, and the entire blade/etc has been repainted, but that cross guard is killing me. I know I have seen it somewhere before...

Re: Supernatural sword prop - anyone recognize? Spoilers for latest episode

The hilt looks like it could easily be modified from existing swords.

The design is similar to those used in The Crusades

Now with reward!

Yea, I think it's an english style broadsword.

I just cannot find a crossguard that matches up. I found a few "kinda close" but nothing "accurate enough".

It doesn't help that I think I have seen this thing somewhere.

Added a reward to the first post. Maybe that will help jog some memories :lol

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

It looks like an old knock-off of a Marto.

I too have seen it or something VERY similiar in the mid-90;s

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

Give me measurements and I will forge you one...unless you prefer a different metal...

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

It also has a similar style to some of the knock-off LOTR Glamdring swords:

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

Looks a bit like a 15th century hand and a half sword. Maybe German? I assume some prop dept just altered some old production sword they had lying around. Unless this is a modern repro that is no longer in stock online.

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

A lot of good guesses, but remember the swords hilt length. The archer sword is pretty close, but with the single hand swords that cross guard is going to be pretty small compared to the screen used.

In the screencaps from the show, Dean is able to grab it with both hands and have a little bit of room left on the hilt. That cross guard is a biggie. I think the sword is a two hander, or at the least a hand and a half sword.

Shylaah, that is pretty much the closest yet. The blade shape is wrong, and that ring needs to be gone, but it's about 60% there.

wes1761 - sent ya a PM.

Thanks guys!

That pic I found here:
Sword Buyers Digest - March 2010
Mirrored and rotated it to compare to your pic, as I have trouble doing that just in my head!

I saw lots of 'nearlys' on the pommel and hilt, but none others with curved flattened quillons like that.....

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

It could just be a sword bought from one of those cheesy sword and knife kiosks in malls.

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

Slowly closing in on it!

Knives, sabers, swords and hunting weapons, Aceros de Hispania

Lots of about 80-90% there blades and hilts.

Really hoping since the only part seen in the show (literally) is the hilt and part of the blade that it's not some 600$ carbon steel functional sword that is hand forged by gnomes in toronto or something. I am 100% sure they cast one in rubber for the fight scenes, and at least a partial cast for the "stabbing" scene.

I got lots of screencaps for a reason guys :lol

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

I'm at work now and can't spare the time to research, but this is looking a WHOLE lot like a modded variation of a pretty common sword made in Toledo, Spain to me. As I'm sure many of you are aware there are a TON of swords coming out of that place at any given moment, but I toured a smith's shop there where they had all the designs on display and this is looking very familiar.

Re: Need help identifying sword, will a reward help?

Albion Swords Ltd has a large range of swords that may be close.

My searches have found that the pommel type is the "scent bottle stopper" pommel if that helps at all

Also notice that the cutting edge of the blade starts approx 6 inches along the blade from the cross guard.

ps My research suggests that it may be a "b'stard sword" which I truly hope it is as I look forward to somebody posting "I have found the b'stard!!!"

Yea, it's definitely a b@astard sword (really word filter? really?). I have found a few places online that have REALLY CLOSE ones but damned if I can find the squared off cross guard and long blade.

I may be facing the fact that it's a custom build and just made of hyperfirm rubber :(

It's damned close to a lot of swords but I am having nil luck tracking down the exact model or make. Managed to find Death's ring though, so it hasn't been a complete waste of googling :)
