After staring at this thing for the many years I have had it, I decided tonight that it was time to go nuts on it. I have been itching to build a styrene kit for a while now, and I figured this will be a great challenge.
It will involve a test of all my skills, from airbrushing to casting to sculpting.
Here is what I have done in just one night.
Here is what I started with around dinner time. Since it's a snap kit, It is a snap to take apart... i'm just that funny.
I started to carefully remove the doors using the thread technique. It took me nearly an hour to remove each door.
Fast forward about 3 hours, and after a little cleanup, a few cigarettes, and a coffee... and I was ready to mock it up for a little inspration.
I took it all apart after that and laid up clay on the door interiors so I can start sculpting a whole new interior tomorrow.
While the body is in shambles, I wanted to try this chrome foil I have seen on the shelves at the hobby store.
Needles to say... the results from only tinkering with it a little are amazing. I did the trim around the fin freehand with a razor. All of this is stripped off now, and the fins are damned to the sand and primer treatment shortly.
Note the airbrushed silver on the fin sitting next to the car. Never again... chrome foil is my new mistress.
